Hello neighbors, I know there has been a fair bit of talk about switching energy suppliers recently, and I wanted to let you know of one option you may have overlooked in your search of the cheapest rates - wind-generated power from Ambit Energy. You still pay your bills and get any outages serviced through Duquesne light. Ambit is only the energy generation portion of the energy chain. All customer support, etc. is still given through Duquesne (which made me feel more comfortable about making the switch). Although you will pay slightly more (9.54 cents/kwh fixed on a 12-month contract (or there is a variable plan that doesn't require a 12-month commitment, but is currently listed at 10.04 cents/kwh)), you will be using WIND-POWERED energy for relatively little cost over coal-powered - a step in the right direction in my opinion. We just switched and I'm am happy to pay a few more dollars a month to support an alternative energy source and keep a little more coal-powered pollution out of the air. Just consider it a small charitable giving to your environment that does so much for you :^) It was easy to switch - I went to http://ww2.ambitenergy.com/rates-and-plansand put in my zip code (and kept "Residential" selected). From there it listed all of Ambit's options and you can read details about costs, contracts, etc. You then click "sign up" and fill out an online application, and lastly do a follow-up phone call (automated) to confirm your details are correct. Within a few days of doing this, I got a letter from Duquesne confirming the generation switch to Ambit, and that Duquesne is still my billing and customer service company. My husband did a thorough search of all the available plans and there were a couple of wind-powered options, but he found Ambit to have the lowest cost. One company appeared to have a very low rate and offered green energy, but once he delved deeper into the website it was clear that this low advertised rate was not that associated w/ the green energy plan. I think actions speak louder than words, so if we want alternative energy to be the future, we need to start by using that which is available to us currently. Maybe wind power isn't the ultimate solution, but from my perspective it is a huge improvement over extractive resource-based energy (e.g. coal). Please consider making the switch to Ambit Energy (or another alternative energy provider) so we can breathe a little easier in Pittsburgh! http://ww2.ambitenergy.com/rates-and-plans Your neighbor, Meg
