I forgot to mention the obvious dysfunctionality that the Wizrds of Smart have inflicted upon us by creating the four-lane two-lane incarnation of East Liberty Boulevard.  The turns lanes are now too short and traffic gluts at the intersections.  Why?  Because with only two traffic lanes instead of four the same volume of traffic is forced into a single lane at the traffic signals (except for those smart people who have been ignoring this wonderful new boulevard).  Thus, where motorists attempting to turn across traffic used to be able to smoothly enter the turn lane and proceed on a green arrow, they now cannot get past the traffic lined up at the traffic light, while the turn lane sits empty or nearly empty.  By the time one gets to a point to be able to enter the turn lane, the green arrow has turned red.  But I have an idea worthy of a "planner."  Tear up the median and create turn lanes the length of the whole block and get rid of the ridiculous trees that obstruct nearby neighbors from being able to see approaching traffic (including the monthly bicycle) when they jaywalk across four lanes - opppps, two lanes - and a median.
