From foreclosures, to layoffs, to decreased wages and increases in health insurance premiums, women  and their families are being negatively affected  by the current economic crises.

 

Learn about the advocacy efforts being engaged in at the local and national level to ensure that women and girls are included in the national economic recovery and stimulus packages being developed by the U.S. Congress and the

Obama Administration.

Nearly 10.5 million women in the U.S. are single parents (as compared with 2.5 million single fathers). For them, opting out of the workplace for any reason — like motherhood or education — is not viable. Children in mother-only families are almost 5 times as likely to be in poverty as those in married-couple families (38 and 8 percent, respectively).  And today women in Southwest PA still make less than 70 cents per dollar compared to their male counterparts.
