dear neighbors: in case new folks don't know, we have the only open air police firing range in a residential neighborhood in north america.

there is a firing range in north park police use. but the local force says they can't use that range because of scheduling conflicts.

and so i took a walk today in highland park with a friend from edgewood who stopped in her tracks, shocked, amid the loud gunfire. we couldn't even carry on a conversation up by the farmhouse.

we shouldn't have to live with gunfire from military firearms, our kids shouldn't hear it, no one living or visiting our neighborhood—or any residential neighborhood!—deserves to be assaulted by the noise of firearms. we should not have to "get used to it."

every other neighborhood in north america knows it.

just raising awareness, thanks,
joy katz
