Bob, I am sorry to hear of your encounter, I will make sure that I have officers in that area trying to identify them. Can you give me a better description of them? -----Original Message----- From: neighborhood-bounces@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us [mailto:neighborhood-bounces@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us] On Behalf Of Bob Griewahn Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 10:55 PM To: neighborhood@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us Subject: [Highland Park] Assault on Elgin Street I was walking home tonight from the bus stop at Grafton and Highland Ave. There were a group of kids hanging around on the 5900 block of Elgin, doing nothing in particular. As I walked down Elgin towards Negley, I could hear some of them following me. As I turned up my walkway on the 5600 block, a few of them ran up the front yard steps behind me. I ran up onto my front porch, but two or three of them grabbed me and threw me down onto the stone floor of the porch. I yelled for help, they laughed, and ran off down the street towards Negley. They were a group of about 7 or 8 African-American teenagers, probably about 14-17 years old. Unfortunately, none of my neighbors responded to my calls for help. I called the police, and an officer arrived in about 15 minutes. He told me that someone had just been robbed on Wellesley (probably about 5 or ten minutes after they jumped me), and that a medic had to be called. I spoke with one of my neighbors later, and he told me that he heard some shouts, but thought it was just kids being rowdy. He didn't actually hear the word "help", or he would have checked things out and called the police. Please be very careful. And, if you hear shouts, don't just assume that everything is OK. With the warmer weather, and school being out, we have to be even more careful. I got out of this with a cut and a banged up knee, but it sounds like the person on Wellesly didn't fare so well. -- <http://www.highlandpark.pgh.pa.us/mailman/listinfo/neighborhood>
