City Council District 7 “Name That Street” contest results

The results are in!

After considering a number of online submissions of possible street names from District 7 residents, members of the District 7 team and Lawrenceville United staff have selected “McKeever Way” as the official nomination to name this stretch of road between Denny Street and Liberty Avenue in Lawrenceville.

McKeever Way’s namesake, Father Edward M. McKeever, was the founding parish priest of Lawrenceville’s St. John the Baptist Church. Church Brew Works currently occupies the building that housed Father McKeever’s parish through most of the 20th century. Sean Casey, the owner and founder of Church Brew Works, submitted the winning nomination to the contest.

According to online burial records, Father McKeever, who was born in 1848, was ordained as a priest on December 21, 1871, and died in 1923. Father McKeever is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery along 45th Street and Penn Avenue.

The nomination will be forwarded to the City of Pittsburgh's Address Committee for official review.
