Hello, neighbors! Have you ever had any of these questions: 1. Why does my blue hydrangea have pink blooms????? 2. Why don't my raspberries (or blueberries) produce well? 3. How come, no matter what I plant or how I fertilize, everything gets yellow/brown leaves (or doesn't do well, or dies)? 4. What do my plants need in order to survive, to thrive, and to bring me joy? 5. When I *know* I put it in the dryer with the other one, where does that one sock disappear to? Okay, I can't help you with #5. But the answers to all those other questions might just be found in the soil... This week, From Planning to Canning: Gardening on the Cheap, will help you to understand some of the things your plants want and need in the patches of dirt they call home. We will talk about soil composition & structure, pH, essential nutrients, testing and amendment. You will learn simple ways to determine basic soil needs. (Hands-on, using common items found in your kitchen!) We will discuss steps you can take to create a place for your plants to thrive, including amendments to correct imbalances. I will also provide you with information on other methods to further test soil for more specific needs. Class is Thursday night, 6:30-8:30 pm. Cost is $10/person, with no fee for those on a limited income. (I can do cash, check or major credit cards.) ***These classes are not just for folks who want to grow edibles! I am a horticulturist with 16 years of experience working with everything from orchids to fruit & shade trees, veggies & herbs to perennial grasses & flowers, landscaping to greenhouse production.
