2008 Event Theme is "Bring Your Best Ten" -- Encouraging Participants to Share Desirable Delights from Their Gardens

The Eighth Annual Pittsburgh Garden Swap, a non-profit event for gardening enthusiasts of all ages, is taking place on Saturday, May 31st at the Frick Environmental Center in Squirrel Hill. Spring is the time of year to thin out gardens, separate perennials and plan your 2008 gardens. The beauty of this annual event is the ability for local gardeners to share and trade treasures from their own gardens.

The theme of the 2008 Pittsburgh Garden Swap is “Bring Your Ten Best!” The goal will be for participants to bring ten desirable, healthy, well-potted, and clearly labeled plants to share. The spirit of the Pittsburgh Garden Swap has always been for local gardeners to share their garden treasures with fellow plant lovers. Focusing on quality plants will improve not only the plant selection, but also the overall swap experience.

Other activities include Pittsburgh Garden Stories – an annual activity that provides local gardeners with an opportunity to show off their gardens. Participants are asked to bring a photo of their blooming garden to the event and the Garden Swap team will provide a template for writing a short narrative about their gardening experiences, challenges, and triumphs. All Pittsburgh Garden Stories will be posted for participants to read during the event. Select stories will be published on the Pittsburgh Garden Stories website - http://www.pittsburghgardenstories.blogspot.com/. Nature-inspired children’s activities will also be available so even the youngest gardener can participate in the Swap. This year’s children’s activity booth will be sponsored and run by the East End Food Co-op.

The Pittsburgh Garden Swap is sponsored by the East-End Food Co-op and the Frick Environmental Center. Proceeds will support Frick Environmental Center programming.
