Good morning Zone 5 neighbors!

Attached is your Community Crime Update for the week of January 30th - Feb 5th.

I am proud of the great work our officers did this week. As you will see in the report, we were able to either make arrests or identify and obtain warrants for nearly every serious crime this week. In one of the instances, a man pistol-whipped a jitney driver then fired multiple shots at him. Our officers were able to arrive on scene quickly, spot the suspect, and gave chase. Thankfully the victim was uninjured and our officers were able to get the gun and apprehend the suspect without getting injured themselves.

We did see a spike in thefts from vehicles on February 2nd in Morningside. We had (7) vehicles broken into. We also learned that our neighbors on the other side of the river had about 20 thefts from vehicles on the same night.  Occasionally these criminals will break windows to cars but the majority of the time they walk around late at night and try door handles. They will steal whatever they can from unlocked cars. We keep tabs on the locations and send extra patrols there, but we have a huge area to cover and it is unlikely that we will catch the thieves in the act. Please safeguard your property by locking your cars and houses, even if you are only gone for a minute.

Take care and have a great week,

Jason
