Hello all!

I will be running my series of gardening classes again, but this year they will be held at a new location. (Unfortunately, not be in Highland Park.)

>From Planning to Canning: Gardening on the Cheap will be held on Wednesdays, bringing February 5th and ton weekly through the end of October (with an occasional week off!). There will be two sessions available each week (same class).

Location: Temple Sinai, 5505 Forbes avenue in Squirrel Hill
Times: 9:30-11:30 am
           6:30-8:30 pm
Cost: $20 per session (sliding scale/scholarships available if that's not doable).

Each class is a separate topic, so attend one or attend all! Lessons are predominantly based on your *outdoor* garden, but are applicable to trees, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, flowers (annual and perennial), so you define your garden!

Topics include (but aren't limited to):

Where to start (planning or expanding your garden)
Starting your own plants (from seed, cuttings, etc.)
Transplanting
Preservation of foods & flowers through drying
Soil testing & amendment
Composting
Faerie gardens
Pickling & fermenting
Making jellies, jams & preserves
Canning fruits & vegetables
Birds, bees, butterflies & bats
Insect identification & control (all natural)
Weed identification & control (all natural)
Pruning perennials, trees & shrubs
Plant/garden maintenance (you tell me which plants you need to know about!)
Orchids 101 (I was an orchid grower for 7 years)
A few "Tastes of the Season" meals
Tool sharpening & maintenance
Putting your garden to bed

I am a trained horticulturist with 20+ years of experience, and also have a degree in education. Classes are often hands-on and any necessary supplies are included in the cost. Each class offers cost-, time- & space-saving tips & methods!

I hope you'll join me!
