The good news is that because of the improved environmental health of our rivers in Pittsburgh, the great blue heron population has increased. The bad news is that great blue heron camped out at our pond and ate EVERY LAST fish in our pond! If you have an over-abundance of fish in your pond this spring and would be willing to offer some free to a new home, please let us know. We will gladly pick up the fish. P.S. We have had problems with the blue heron at our pond in previous years, but he/she never ate all of our fish. Once the leaves come out on the trees, we never see him/her at the pond again. P.P.S. Next early spring we plan to put netting over the pond so that the heron doesn't fish it again and your fish will be safe!
