Soil Success in our Gardens and Containers

Presenter: Miriam Cheng; Wild Child Native Gardens

Vibrant plants and gardens start with healthy soil. This presentation will include a little science, but will mostly cover practical aspects of the why and how of soils. The components of soil; testing, amending, and the reasons; soil chemical composition, and how to change soil pH - these are all important for nutrient and micronutrient availability in gardens and containers. The presentation will also cover container gardening tips on how to keep containers (like the club-maintained Bryant Street planters) healthy and happy throughout the season, including moisture retention, amendments, incorporating nativar selections that yield multi-season interest along with the usual annuals.

Miriam is an engaging and informative speaker who inspired those in attendance with her February and March presentations. Read more about Miriam' background on the club website.
