The October 2019 issue of Consumer Reports has a helpful article comparing DIY home security systems. The article points out the challenge of comparing apples to apples when shopping for a system and contains helpful information for deciding what you need.
Vivint Smart Home Security System-- 3 recommendations. Vivint is available directly from the company and also at a discount via a Primerica representative.
ADT-- 2 recommendations.
Guardian-- 5 recommendations and one warning. One household preferred Guardian having also used Vector and ADT. One person warned about being drawn into an expensive, multi-year contract.
Valley Electric in Imperial-- 1 recommendation. Not sure if this is a system or system installer.

RING System purchased and installed by Best Buy-- 1 recommendation. Best Buy comes to your home to advise and install what you purchase.
Wyze cameras-- 1 recommendation. $25 per camera, monitored via a free app.
ARLO-- not recommended by one person
Xfinity-- 1 recommendation. "$40 for the system + 3 cameras"
SSA-- 2 recommendations and one warning about poor customer service
