Newly Planted Trees Need Your Help!

water your trees!

The unusual weather that we had this spring is continuing into summer. Trees planted in the past few years need to be watered 30 to 40 gallons per week or about 1 inch of rainfall. We haven't had a significant rain in a few weeks and the 10-day outlook does not include any rain!  Tree Pittsburgh staff has noticed many trees struggling from the hot dry conditions. These symptoms include wilting, browning of leaves and early leaf drop. This usually doesn't occur until mid to late July.

How to Water
Water slowly and deeply--do not turn the hose on full blast.
You can use a 5 gallon bucket with holes in the bottom to slowly water, turn your hose on a slow stream and place it in the tree pit, or use a gator bag like the one you see in the photo.

Watering your trees now will help to ensure you enjoy cooling shade in the future!
