Wood stain help

Hi, neighbors. We recently bought a farm table from a seconds shop. It had some splits which I fixed but I also sanded a few spots in the hopes of refinished. I have been unsuccessfully conditioning and restaining but it always comes out blotchy and lighter than the rest of the table. I'd really like to not have to refinish the whole table.
