I just dug up some red raspberry plants from my back yard
and they are sitting in a bucket on my front steps at 931 Mellon. Please
feel free to come and get some plants, but leave the bucket please..
They are thorny, with lots of small thorns. That does
not discourage picking the fruits. But bring gloves to pick them up
with. Or you can grab them by the roots, which do not have thorns.
These raspberries bloom twice per year. You will get a
harvest around June and September. I think you would probably not get any
fruit this June, but possibly in September and definitely next year.
They do spread, so put them in a place where you can dig
them up as they wander. I have them growing in the root system of a maple
tree (in the neighbors yard), so they can be tough to dig up. But they
still grow, spread and produce fruit.
Don’t be sad if you miss them, since I will have more
to dig up as soon as I get back to it. So if you come and there are none
left, I will have some for you later.
Thanks
Bob
