Our portion of the report begins on page 3. Notable Arrests at the end is worth a read as well.

Please see the nice note below from Commander Lando. If you are wondering, 20 boxes of pizza cost about $170. Smaller get-togethers with kids cost about $50 for pizza. If anyone is interested in donating pizza for an event, please let me know and I will coordinate the effort with the Commander.

Best regards,

Monica

Subject: Zone 5 Community Crime Update: October 12th-18th

Good afternoon, Zone 5 Neighbors!

Attached you will find your weekly Community Crime Update for the week of October 12th-18th.

I am happy to report that we have started a new outreach program at Zone 5 to help build trust between police and our most at-risk population, young men and women between 13-21 years old. We have started a series of small group meetings (2-4 police officers meeting with 6-12 youth/young adults) to allow our officers and the kids to get to know each in a non-threatening setting. Our first meeting took place last week in the living room of a house in Homewood. We had pizza with a few young men and spent two hours talking about various issues. It was a great first meeting and the first of many to come.

Lastly, in keeping with our goal to build better relationships with the kids, our officers took pizza to the youth football practice last week and had the chance to interact with about 100 kids who were surprised and excited to see the cops arrive with 20 boxes of Pizza Hut pizza! A very special thank you to Rev. Lyde of the Baptist Temple Church in Homewood for buying the pizza! (If you know any organizations who would be willing to help donate food to these youth meetings, please let me know!) Some photos of the event are attached.

Have a great week and stay safe,

Jason
