Council districts redrawn, District 7 welcomes new portions of Strip District, Bloomfield

City Council districts are getting a new look thanks to information gathered in the 2010 census. Every ten years the boundaries of each City Council district are redrawn based upon the US Census to allow for the most accurate representation of City residents in Council. The new City Council district boundaries are determined and approved by City Council, with guided input from the Council-appointed Reapportionment Advisory Committee.

Under the proposed plan, District 7 will no longer include a large portion of Stanton Heights (near Allegheny Cemetery) and will also say goodbye to portions of the neighborhood of East Liberty. The sections of Stanton Heights and East Liberty that will no longer be included in District 7 will be reapportioned to City Council District 9, represented by Reverend Ricky Burgess. To learn more about the District 9 office, including contact information, visit the District 9 website.

Our office is excited to extend its services to our new constituents, the Strip District Bloomfield, and Friendship, and hopes to continue to deliver the best municipal representation to our already-served areas. For more information about the reapportionment process, or to ask a question about redistricting, contact the District 7 office.

Happy Holidays from Councilman Dowd and the D7 Team!

Councilman Dowd and the District 7 Team would like to wish all District 7 residents and stakeholders a very happy and safe holiday season. Councilman Dowd and the District 7 office have enjoyed serving the District 7 community over the past year, and working with residents and stakeholders to make District 7 a great place to live and work.

The District 7 office and other non-emergency City offices will be closed on December 25th and January 1st.

We look forward to the start of another year of working with our partners in the community!

Did you know?

Did you know that the custom of making New Year’s resolutions dates back over 4,000 years to the ancient Babylonians? The most common resolution in ancient Babylon was a resolution to return borrowed farm equipment, something not all together different from today’s common resolution to return that stack of borrowed dishes after those large holiday dinners!
