Erin, That is great news. I just dropped a Trader Joe’s bag full of books at the Black Cat Market on Penn Avenue in Garfield. I was the first person to drop them off there, and they were so excited to get some! So if you get to be overwhelmed, this is a reminder that it is a place that is fairly close! Hello again, neighbors,
Thank you to everyone that has donated books for us to take to Allegheny County Jail (see the copied text below for more info on this, if needed). At this point, we nearly have enough donated books to fill our entire car, which is wonderful. Even more wonderfully, neighbors have volunteered to fill their cars and help drop off the donations, so we can take even more! *We will continue collecting until December 20th,* so please continue to bring them to our *back porch*. We live at 5901 Hampton St., on the corner of Euclid and Hampton.
Thank you all! EM & Kevin
*Original message:* Hello neighbors,
Allegheny County Jail has decided, reportedly for the sake of safety, to stop receiving book donations as of December 28th (you can read about it here: https://www.publicsource.org/allegheny-county-jail-book-restricted-inmate-me... ). Instead they will provide people held there with a tablet holding only about 200 books, and to which people will have access for 90 minutes/day. This is being fought by various organizations. But planning for the worst, we can help ease this troubled situation by donating books up until the deadline.
If you would like to donate, but don’t have the means to travel to a donation location, please drop your donations off at our house and we will take them for you. I’ve attached a flyer with specifics on what they are looking for.
We live at *5901 Hampton St,* corner of Euclid and Hampton. Please leave your donations on the back porch, which is more protected from the rain than the front.
Thank you for helping others in our community!
