Zone 5 Weekly Crime Report Oct 28 through Nov 3 Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 5 Police Station Weekly Crime Report *Week of Oct 28 through Nov 3* Pictured Above: Zone 5 Officers celebrating "Googleween" at the Google offices, Bakery Square. *Homewood / East Hills* *10/30/19 – Vehicle Theft in the 1000 block of Brushton Ave- *The victim is a delivery driver for Uber Eats. While making a delivery, the victim driver exited her car – a black 2011 Ford Escape (PA# KNH-0498), leaving the keys in the ignition. As she was giving the food to a customer, a dark skinned black male, approximately 5’10”, 180 lbs, wearing a black jacket jumped in the vehicle and drove off. (221744) *11/1/19 – Burglary in the 7000 block of Hamilton Ave-* An unknown person forced entry into a home under construction, sometime after 5:00 pm, and stole several gallons of paint and a saw. The total amount of loss is estimated to be $405. (223790) *11/2/19 – Robbery in the 8500 block of Frankstown Ave at 9:30 pm-* A victim reported that as he was walking to the store, a group of eight juvenile males attacked him. While the victim was on the ground, the juvenile suspects pulled at the victim’s pants and stole approximately $10 in currency and coinage. (224715) *Larimer / Lincoln-Lemington* *11/01/19-Aggravated Assault in the 1300 block of Missouri St at 5:30 pm- *A victim stated that she stayed the night with a known male. When the victim went to use the bathroom, the male, identified as Alton Strickland, 52, of Lincoln-Lemington, entered the bathroom with a 2' x 6" piece of wood, and began swinging it at her. The victim was struck in both arms, and the back of the head, but fortunately suffered no serious injuries. Officers will be obtaining a warrant for Strickland. (223314) *Bloomfield / Garfield / Friendship* *10/28/19 – Bicycle theft in the 5200 block of Liberty Ave*. The victim came outside in the morning to find that her white Trek racing bike, with pink and yellow accents, had been stolen. The bike was valued at $1500. While the bike was not secured, it was stored in a garage that is only accessible to local residents and their guests. (220097) *11/1/19 – Burglary in the 200 block of S Winebiddle St-* The victim reported that she returned home for the evening to find that the front door had been forced open, sometime between 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Nothing was reported missing. (223529) *10/30/19 – Business Robbery at Starbucks, 5310 Liberty Ave*. Two teenagers (both black, one male and one female) showed a guns and demanded money from the cash register. Both suspects wore black clothing and wore camouflage masks. (221877) *10/31/19-Burglary in the 200 block of Sapling Way- *A victim reported that his black 2017 Specialized Diverge 58 cm bicycle was stolen from the vestibule of his home, in which several co-tenants reside, sometime between 10/31/19 and 11/2/19. The bike is valued at $1800. (225331) *11/1/19 – Burglary in the 300 block of S Winebiddle St*. A victim reported that sometime between 4:30 pm and 11:30 pm, someone entered his apartment and had taken a jar full of loose change and a safe containing savings bonds. The front door to the apartment was found to be sightly opened. (223587) *11/3/19 – Auto Theft in the 400 block of Taylor St*. A victim reported that her vehicle was stolen from it's parking space on the street in front of her home sometime between 11/1/19 and 11/3/19. The vehicle is a 2016 gray Subaru PA plate JFY0679. (224595) *11/3/19-Theft from Vehicle in the 200 block of South Aiken Ave- *A victim reported that her vehicle was broken into sometime after 10:00 pm. A wallet containing several credit cards and a backpack were stolen. (225333). *East Liberty / Highland Park* *10/29/19 – Overdose in the 100 block of N Beatty St*. Officers responded to an overdose and found the victim unconscious on the floor. After the officers administered 2 doses of Narcan, the victim regained consciousness but refused any further medical treatment. (220512) *11/1/19-Theft of Vehicles and Equipment in the 7300 block of Baker St- *A local tree-cutting service reported that two of their Ford work trucks had been stolen from a parking lot, one of them being a pick-up, and the other a small bucket truck. Both trucks were fortunately recovered. In addition to the trucks, 16 Stihl chainsaws, 2 Stihl leaf blowers, and 10 truck mats were stolen. (223745) *11/2/19 – Overdose in the 6200 block of Kalida Dr*. A woman returned home to find the victim experiencing an overdose, and unresponsive. The woman and responding officers both administered Narcan, saving the victim’s life. (224253) *Morningside / Stanton Heights / Waterworks* *10/30/19 – Business Robbery at 1800 Morningside Ave-* At 7:30pm a thin black male in his early 20s, approximately 5’11” wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants entered a local store, showed the clerk a gun in his waistband and demanded the clerk fill a gray plastic bag with cash. The suspect then fled the business toward Greenwood St. (221808) *11/1/19-Robbery in the 900 block of Freeport Road at 5:20 pm- *A victim reported that she was at the Waterworks Mall in an alley when a teenage white male, 5'7" tall, thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with gray stripes and blue jeans, riding a 'kid's bike', came up from behind her, and grabbed her PA ID card out of her hand, then fled the area. (223468) Crimes listed in the above report include: Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Burglary, Arson, Stolen Cars, Thefts from Vehicle, and Overdoses. *We do not list information for car accidents, retail theft, harassment, minor assaults, etc. * *This Week's Notable Arrests* *11/1/19 – Shots Fired, Gun and Drug Arrest in the 900 block of N Braddock Ave at 2:00 am* Zone 5 officers on routine patrol heard gunshots coming from Baxter Park – while nearly simultaneously receiving a ShotSpotter notification from the same location. Responding officers observed a suspicious male in the area, who quickly walked to an abandoned house after seeing officers. Officers made contact with the male, identified as Kasaun Hughey, 22, of Homewood. A Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol (which was discovered to be stolen) was recovered. In addition, officers recovered ecstasy pills and paraphernalia consistent with illicit drug sales. (222801) *11/3/19- Stolen Firearm, Firearms not to be Carried without a License, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Escape at 1:30 am* Zone 5 Officers responded to the intersection of Susquehanna St and El Ct for a male threatening a female with a gun. Upon arrival, officers observed a male and female in the middle of the street arguing, both were uncooperative with officers. After a short period of time, the male ran from officers, throwing a firearm in a grassy field. Officers were able to apprehend the male, 34 yr old James Mosely Zellars of Penn Hills,with a taser. Officers determined that Mosely Zellars was not licensed to carry a firearm, and the Springfield XD 45 cal pistol they recovered from the field was stolen. Due to the fact that a taser was used, Officers transported Mosely Zellars to UPMC Mercy for a medical clearance, at which point he spit in the face of a nurse, and bit a security guard. Mosely Zellars was then transported to the Allegheny County Jail, and threatened to kill the Officers for arresting him.
