Hi, Neighbors! This is the email to announce sign up for the Girl Scout Christmas Tree pick up for recycling. We started this program with our girls 9 or 10 years ago and so excited to continue this effort to keep Christmas trees out of our landfills. Note that our troop has added an additional day for the Highland Park, East Liberty, Garfield and Larimer pick ups this year, so if you are holding on to that tree a little longer, you have an extra week available for pick up. Please just note on the form if your tree will not be available for the January 7 pick up, so we make sure to place you on the January 13 list. Go here to sign up: https://forms.gle/MhqnEhM3e222eAdR9 <https://www.google.com/url?q=https://forms.gle/MhqnEhM3e222eAdR9&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1703715819970706&usg=AOvVaw3a8qSDnFHCz25k6qnnEiAW> This year Girl Scouts are covering: Highland Park, East Liberty, Shadyside, Point Breeze, Friendship, Larimer, Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, Morningside, and Stanton Heights. We will deliver your tree to the city’s tree recycling locations. Two BSA troops will be picking up in Lawrenceville and Bloomfield and delivering the trees to Garfield to feed the goats. Here is a link to a flyer with links to the sign ups for the other areas: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vROpmr7aAaNJzz1KBBdlRkPkW39coN_z... Last year, the city recycled over 1600 trees, and Scouts did over 300 of those! We are hoping to expand those numbers further this year. And, as always, the important thing is that you keep that tree out of the landfill. If you'd rather just drop the tree yourself, the city has made a super helpful map with all of the drop off locations: https://pittsburghpa.gov/dpw/xmas-tree-recycling. Please spread the word! We want to continue to thank the community for the warm support it offers. Through your donations, we are able to give the girls the opportunity to travel (our troop went camping near Ithaca this year for a bigger trip), and it allows us to give back to the community beyond these tree pick ups. In the past, we have used a portion of the donations to help efforts at Hello Neighbor, purchase books for Jeremiah's Place, sending holiday boxes to military troops stationed abroad, to name just a few. We have not yet decided what our additional give-back focus will be this year, but we'll be sure to let you know. Wishing you all a wonderful New Year's! Heather and Melissa gstroop52498@gmail.com
