We need your help neighbors

Dear Neighbors, I'm writing today not just as a mom, but as a member of the Highland Park community who believes deeply in the power of neighborhood public schools. You may have heard that Fulton Elementary—our neighborhood school—is on the chopping block. The district has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, July 29 at 5PM, as part of a state-mandated process required before closing a school. The final vote won’t happen until November, but this hearing is our chance to speak out and shift the outcome. You can testify over zoom as an option. You can also submit written testimony. You just have to do so by tomorrow at 5 pm. Why this matters to all of us in Highland Park: - Fulton is our community’s anchor. It’s where our local tax dollars go. It provides stability, walkability, and a direct connection between schools and the families they serve. - There is no plan for what comes next. The district has no clear vision for how the building will be used—or how the students will be supported. - Fulton is a success story. A majority-minority school, where 26% of students receive special education services, and yet academic achievement is strong. This is the kind of school we should be celebrating and replicating—not shuttering. - Fulton has served Highland Park for over a century. It’s part of our community’s story. On a personal note: My daughter has Down syndrome. We’ve experienced firsthand how hard it can be to find a school that sees and supports her. We went through three different placements before we landed at Fulton. Fulton changed everything. It’s a place where she’s included, challenged, and celebrated—alongside children with and without disabilities. There is no transition plan for kids like her if this school closes. And I can’t help but wonder: if this inclusive, high-performing, diverse school isn’t safe, what school is? This isn’t happening in a vacuum. At the federal level, policies are being proposed that would gut funding for public education and expand voucher systems—systems that too often leave behind students with disabilities, low-income families, and English language learners. Let’s be honest: not every child has access to private options or the means to navigate them. If you live in Highland Park—if you have stability, privilege, or even just access—you have a responsibility to use your voice. When public officials push forward with closures or sweeping changes without community input or plans to protect our most vulnerable kids, we must push back. This is about more than one building. It’s about what we value. And what kind of city we’re building. VGUC Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller for sale. This is a great stroller for travel. We purchased this in 2017 and used it sporadically for two kids, mostly while traveling. It’s a great, sturdy stroller with a decent sized basket and awning. The seat reclines and it also comes with a rain cover. It folds up so compactly that I honestly forgot about it in our coat closet because it was tucked away in a corner. I’ll also throw in a stroller hook. My kids used it through age three (getting close to four), with a weight limit of 44 lbs. The stroller itself is super lightweight (internet says 13 lbs) and easy to carry when folded up and in the case. [image: IMG_4606.jpg] Happy to send more pictures if you're interested. Young black walnuts?
