Hi all. My wife found a Bassett hound roaming the alley behind our house (1210 Mellon St). After it nearly got hit in the road, she let it into our yard and called animal control. The dog, which is very friendly, is wearing a multi-colored bandana. We need to leave tonight for an appointment, but I thought I'd send an e-mail to see if anyone's missing their dog. This event is indeed taking place at the West Penn on Liberty, Friendship, and Millvale, in Bloomfield/Friendship. Union Project Update - www.unionproject.org - *Ongoing Stained Glass Restoration Classes* The registration deadline for April classes is April 1. If you are a past student of Union Project stained glass classes you are eligible for a $25 discount on all stained glass classes! Many of the April classes will begin working on the sanctuary windows of the Union Project. These beautiful windows are some of the most visible stained glass windows in the building, and will be seen by thousands of people for many years to come. Saturday morning classes and Thursday evening classes are being offered. Also, new in April, will be our weekend stained glass intensive. Only 2 spots remain in this class. Class members will work from Friday evening thru Sunday afternoon to completely restore their windows. Lunch will be included on 2 days, and a smaller class will allow for more student/teacher interaction. Class members will see the fruits of their labor almost instantly. If you are interested in stained glass classes at the Union Project please call 412-478-3105 or email Justin(a)unionproject.org. *Call for Artists, Farmers, Community Groups* Union Project announces a call for Artists, Farmers, and Community Groups to participate in the annual Artist’s and Farmers Market. Artists are invited to participate as art making instructors for the Summer Artist’s and Farmer’s Market. Past artists have included jugglers, ceramicists, mosaic artists, painters, and more. Artists are encourage to be creative in designing the arts activities. Proposals are being accepted and a stipend is awarded to each artist chosen. Deadline for submissions is April 22, 2005. Artists and Farmers are also invited to participate by setting up retail booths to sell their wares on the highly visible corner of Stanton and Negley Avenues and Community Groups are invited to set up booths as a way to provide information to neighborhood residents about what else is happening in the city. Her Magic Penny Gardens are made with the perennial plants shared by community members and honor the stories that gardeners associate with the special plants that they share. Registered project participants will work with Stephanie to create a Magic Penny Garden for the Union Project. They will also explore her concept of gardens-as-art and share their own creative experiences in their gardens. Participants will also help to plan the community events associated with the garden and have an opportunity to stay involved for the on-going maintenance of the garden. Classes will most likely meet in the evenings for 8 weeks during the summer months. The cost for this class will be $25 per person, and the class is open to 10 people. Class members should be age 16 and up. The Pittsburgh Men's Garden Club is presenting its Third Annual Garden Expo, and Seed Exchange, as a kick off to the 2005 Garden Season. This takes place at the Wintergarden, and Conference Center, at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, from 11am to 9pm, Monday March 21st. This promises to be fun, and I will be there with a bunch of my custom garden pieces (Decorative garden stakes, hose holders, etc), and I am betting a few more local crafts, and artisans also.
