The Steel City Studio Tour presents its inaugural event!

The Steel City Studio Tour (SCST) presents its inaugural event on *Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2 from 11am to 5pm*, each day. While visiting professional ceramic studios, guests will be able to purchase handmade pottery and clay artwork and get a behind-the-scenes look at the ceramic art process. The Steel City Studio Tour is free and open to everyone. Over 20 ceramic artists and collectives, both local and visiting, will present artwork at this year’s SCST. Ceramic wares for sale include mugs, bowls, platters, vases, teapots, wall art, ornaments and more – with prices ranging from $10 to $200. Important Change to HPGC Kids' Crafting Activity

Please note that all children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. OCTOBER 8 at 10 am (raindate: Sunday, October 9) Children’s Craft Activity: Animals from Natural Materials. Activity Leader: Diana Pelletier, HPGC President. Children will learn how to make a straw animal from straw, sticks, nuts, and other natural materials. The straw will be bound with twine that children can learn to knot. Some items may need to be glued, so an adult with a glue gun will assist. This activity is appropriate for children ages 6 to 10, although older children are welcome. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult. Materials will be supplied, but participants are encouraged to bring any natural materials from their own yards to use and share. Kid-sized work gloves are helpful, but not necessary. The event is free for HPGC members. Non-members are welcome by registering here through Eventbrite; a donation is requested. Diana Pelletier has been an avid gardener for many years. A keen naturalist’s eye and curiosity about the natural world have led her to develop expertise in a wide variety of garden-related matters, which she shares through HPGC programs. She taught art classes for children through Arts in the Parks. Diana is also the author of the “Urban Gardener” series of articles in the Highland Park Community Club newsletter. This program is part of the "Highland Park Garden Club Presents..." , a series of monthly programs designed to entertain and educate about gardening-related topics. i got a chain for my husband, but weirdly it came with extra links to make it length-adjustable. he doesn't (obviously) want extra links hanging down the back of his neck. is there someone with jewelry tools who could trim off these bits and hook up the clasp? thanks! joy

I had this happen 2-3 times last week. Something didn’t sit right with me. Do NOT show them your Duquesne or Peoples gas paperwork/bills! I spoke with a supervisor at Duquesne and they said MPower are not representing or were hired by Duquesne and that they legally aren’t allowed to say the are from/representing Duquesne. Call Duquesne and report MPower with any information that was given to you by one of their representatives that spoke to you. According to Duquesne there are legal issues going on. So the more reports they get, the better case they have. -Marlo

Dear neighbors, I just got a visit from two young men who knocked on my door claiming to be working for "Mpower" which was hired by Duquesne Light (???) to visit every home in "my zipcode" to find out about energy usage. Their spiel was fast and hard to follow, but they seemed to want to know if my energy usage (electric and gas) was above a certain level. If so, they would sell me (???) a green energy plan. They wanted me to check my recent utility statements. I didn't. Anyone else hear from these fellows? Any idea what gives? David

Lost dog spotted on the 5600 block of Callowhill, right by Negley. Looks to be about 35- 40 lbs and 8-10 months, very playful and sweet. The folks who live there aren’t on the list serve and flagged me down as I was walking our dogs. If you recognize her, let me know and I can send along the phone number for the people who found her.
