More rescued farm kittens looking for homes

Here at Singing Wren Farm all our cats are fixed, provided with veterinary care, and are primarily indoor farm cats with a few exceptions. *However*, people feel comfortable dumping cats and kittens at our farm and at our neighbors. We work to trap feral cats for TNR and cats that are obviously socialized we try to find homes. This year we rescued 10 kittens from an elderly neighbors farm and have placed 8. The 2 we still have are Mochi (boy) black and white and Earl Grey (girl) grey and white are a bonded pair of teenage cats. They are in excellent health, very friendly, since they were bottle fed and are used to living inside. Mochi is a polydactyl and has the cutest mitten paws. Bacon and Biscuit are 10 weeks old brown tabby girl kittens that were dumped at 5 wks old and found desperately to thirsty in 90+ degree heat. They have had their first vet appointment and are felv negative and after some antibiotics are doing well. They are too young to be fixed yet, but they will only go to a home that will commit to having them fixed. They are friendly and very sweet. We are footing quite the vet, litter, and cat food bill as you can imagine but we are happy to do our part. We have invested probably $150 per cat so far (the little ones were in pretty bad shape when we found them) but are asking for whatever you can cover of that from our adoptive families. Friendly reminder: Children's Crafting Activity

Please note that all children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. OCTOBER 8 at 10 am (rain date: Sunday, October 9) Children’s Craft Activity: Animals from Natural Materials. Activity Leader: Diana Pelletier, HPGC President. Children will learn how to make a straw animal from straw, sticks, nuts, and other natural materials. The straw will be bound with twine that children can learn to knot. Some items may need to be glued, so an adult with a glue gun will assist. This activity is appropriate for children ages 6 to 10, although older children are welcome. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult. Materials will be supplied, but participants are encouraged to bring any natural materials from their own yards to use and share. Kid-sized work gloves are helpful, but not necessary. The event is free for HPGC members. Non-members are welcome by registering here through Eventbrite; a donation per group is requested, but not required. Diana Pelletier has been an avid gardener for many years. A keen naturalist’s eye and curiosity about the natural world have led her to develop expertise in a wide variety of garden-related matters, which she shares through HPGC programs. She taught art classes for children through Arts in the Parks. Diana is also the author of the “Urban Gardener” series of articles in the Highland Park Community Club newsletter. This program is part of the "Highland Park Garden Club Presents..." , a series of monthly programs designed to entertain and educate about gardening-related topics. This is a message from Allegheny Alerts. The Elections Division today announced that mail-in and absentee ballot packets have begun to go out to county voters. The first batches, which total over 100,000, are being printed and will be delivered to the post office for mailing beginning tomorrow, Saturday, October 1. It is expected that all ballots for individuals that have applied to date will have been printed and delivered to the post office for mailing by mid-week next week. The division continues to process applications as they are being received. With approved ballots going out, over-the-counter voting is now available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM through Tuesday, November 1. To make the process more voter-friendly, the concession stand space in the lobby of the County Office Building will once again serve voters seeking to apply and receive their mail-in or absentee ballot. Staffed by Elections Division staff, the window will be open during regular business hours. Space will also be set aside in the lobby area to allow voters to complete their ballot in private. The preliminary 2023 budget prioritizes investments in safe neighborhoods, welcoming communities and thriving people and invests in vital City services and personnel. Additionally, the proposed budget expands investments in infrastructure including bridge maintenance, public safety, parks and recreation, and increased capacity to address snow events. In keeping with its commitment to transparency, the Administration expanded public engagement efforts to obtain feedback from residents. Guided by the leadership of the Office of Budget and Management, and with help from the Neighborhood Services team in the Mayor’s office and the Department of Innovation and Performance, the City hosted five virtual public meetings, utilized an online survey to capture opinions and developed a digital mapping tool to capture project ideas from the public. This historic engagement in the City’s budget process included a 500% increase in utilization of online surveys through Engage PGH, 67 neighborhoods represented, and more than 1,000 project ideas generated. “Budgets are moral documents and our budget that we introduced today is a statement about the City’s core values, our respect and acknowledgement of the contributions of our employees, and our unwavering commitment to making Pittsburgh the safest city in America where everyone who lives here and works here can thrive.” said Mayor Gainey. “This budget is just the first step to ensuring that our city remains on a course of fiscal stability and responsibility – that is what the public and our city deserve.” *Some key areas of investment include:* - Investment of $4 million to expand capacity to respond to winter weather events, including the purchase of additional snowplows; - Paid student internships for Pittsburgh Public School’s “Prepare to Prosper” initiative; - Funding to upgrade database to track and route resident service requests; - Expansion of Reach Out On The Streets (ROOTS) initiative with OCHS and OVP to bring needed services and violence intervention strategies into every public safety zone; - Establishment of dedicated bridge maintenance unit to conduct day-to-day maintenance and safety checks of City bridges; - Expansion of traffic calming and Complete Streets projects to deliver high-demand right-of-way safety improvements; - Increase of Housing Opportunity Fund to allocate critical supports for affordable housing development to ensure greater production and preservation of long-term affordable housing units and; - Technology infrastructure upgrades.
