The Union Station Café is located inside the Union Project, on the corner of Negley Ave. and Stanton Ave. in the former Union Baptist Church. Jumpstart your New Year !!!!!! January 2007 Creative Memories Overnight Jumpstart your January by joining us at this event! When: Friday, January 19 to Saturday, January 20 Starting at 5pm Friday until 4pm Saturday Where: Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd. Allison Park (on the LaRoche College Campus) Cost*: $57.00 ($50.00 if you register by Friday, January 5th) If you register by Jan. 5th you will also receive 6 raffle tickets What do I bring to an overnight? First, bring the album(s) you are working on and your photos! You should also bring your cutting tools, paper, stickers, and other supplies. Finally, please bring a snack to share with the rest of the group. *The cost includes your overnight stay for 1 (one) night, a continental breakfast, lunch, and beverages all day on Saturday. This is an exciting event being coordinated by the Urban Ecology Collaborative - Pittsburgh. Please pass this invitation on to anyone you think might be interested, and register soon! Yours, Gudrun Wells. The Pittsburgh Green Forum is being developed by the Green Vacant Land Working Group, a project of the Mayor's Office, City of Pittsburgh. The Urban Ecology Collaborative (UEC) has been asked to host this Forum with funding from the Sprout Fund in order to contribute to the Redd Up initiative to ultimately make Pittsburgh one of the Nation's cleanest and greenest cities by 2010. The goal of the Forum is to solidify commitment on all levels - from grassroots to government - for greening as a tool for increased economic development, healthier communities and improved quality of life in the City of Pittsburgh. *The **Pittsburgh** Green Forum for Vacant Land Revitalization* . Training for Green Forum facilitators and note takers, Wed. Oct 25th, 6 pm @ the Pittsburgh Project (where the Green Forum will be held, Nov. 2nd and 3rd… see Forum Design for agenda). During the two days of the Forum we will need help with small group facilitation and note takers. We want to capture all the community input we can to be sure that this is a dynamic participatory community-wide process. The CORO Fellows of Pittsburgh will serve as most of the small group facilitators but a few more are needed. Mainly we will need note takers (26) and people willing to serve as guides (12) to the large numbers of community residents who will attend the Forum. People will be invited from all of the 88 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods and folks can sign up to attend on the City Redd Up Campaign Website. Hello Neighbors, Two pit bulls were seen roaming loose without noticeable leashes or owners near the intersection of Stanton and Negley around 8:30 am this morning. Be careful when walking, especially when walking with dogs or children. If you see them, call Animal Control at 412-255-2325. If it is after hours and Animal Control does not answer, call the Public Works after-hours number 412-937-3871. Do not call 911 - they can not take the report. Sent on behalf of Anna and Derrick Gaines Our minivan was parked in our driveway, facing the garage doors, on the corner of Grafton and Sheridan. Some time between 7pm Saturday night and 11am Sunday - someone ran up on our garage roof and jumped onto the minivan, smashing the front windshield and leaving footprints on the hood. We filed a report with the police who, at the time, had no other information to share about other incidents. Anna and Derrick Gaines

The Police Training Academy will be using the firing range, until 8:00 PM, from now until Nov. 9 (except F, Sat, Sun). So if you hear a lot of gunfire coming from the direction of Washington Blvd, thats the source: not to worry. -dk

[Highland Park] Attempted robbery

Thanks to our observant neighbors, we still have out two lawn mowers. Saturday afternoon around 3:15 two young men went into our yard (which is fenced in) around the back, opened up a lattice gate under the deck and tired to leave with our two mowers. They were on bicycles, which they left due to their new possessions. Our neighbors just happen to be looking out of their 2nd floor window and saw them walking out of the yard with the mowers. As they were asked why they were taking our mowers, their response was, "they're mine".... The one kid then took off while the other still casually walked down Portland St and turned onto Hampton St with one of the mowers. Our neighbors dog made him forget about "his" mower and he took off as well. The two bicycles were left in the yard, which the police assume they were stolen too. The front wheel of one bike looked as though it had been cut through to release a lock. The police has both bikes at their station now. If anyone is missing a silver mountain looking bike or a red 10 (?) speed bike with a cloth briefcase attached to the handlebars and a chain with a pad lock attached, check with zone 5. It is pretty sad when something like this can happen on a bright sunny Saturday afternoon. Talk about being brazen! Jean and Dave Boyer 1039 Portland St Have a wonderful day !!! Our fence was "tagged" last week and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced problems. We are on Wellston Way between Highland and N. Euclid. I don't suppose there is anything to be gained by reporting this to the police?
