Highland Park and beyond ...thanks for taking my reccomendation for the new restaurant on Bryant St. I went there last night with a friend and they had been bombarded with patrons from the opening bell on Friday. We were the last ones served as they had run out of a lot of items due to the overwhelming response. We had an excellent meal including the calamari, soup and the pineapple/duck salad and the steak salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and wonderful. Take outs should call ahead if possible. (Some people left because the wait was long for takeout) That is because so many of us went at one time....Go back again it is worth it. I know I will. FYI - BYOB if you are planning on eating there. Hello neighbors: I'm revamping and getting rid of some furniture--which I'm putting on sale at Craig's list and here: 1. Very unusual rococo walnut dining table, ornately carved all over with putti, lion's faces, and paw feet. Three leaves (not pictured), Six matching side chairs upholstered in red velvet; two matching arm chairs in red and blue fine fabric (silk/wool). $1000. 2. Large dark wood (cherry?) bookshelf, eight shelves (four on each side); notched shelf rests; from an old library at midwestern Catholic college; $50. 3. King sized futon platform, disassembled. Free. Hi Neighbors! I have a friend who is available, and looking, this summer to watch children at your home. She is going to be a junior at Duquesne University where she is going for her Masters to become a Physicians Assistant (like a Nurse Practitioner). She works very well with smaller children ,infants to 6 years of age, as she works at the nursery during church. She does well with all ages of children though and is very active (biking, walking, swimming, etc) and loves going to different places around town (Museum, Park, Zoo, etc). The owner of the new Smiling Banana Leaf Thai restaurant (formerly Peppi's) on Bryant street is also hoping to open the doors to patrons this weekend ( barring any final arrangement changes). Dear Highland Park neighbors, Jean and I had dinner last Sunday at Tana, the new Ethiopian restaurant in East Liberty, and recommend it highly. With its special herbal sauces, we found it cuts above similar restaurants. It is located just around the corner from the East Liberty Library. I asked the proprietor, Seifu Haileyesus, for a description. He wrote: Tana Ethiopian Cuisine, located at 5929 Baum Blvd., is a family owned restaurant that offers authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The hours of operation are Tuesday - Sunday. Lunch 11:00a.m.-2:30p.m.Dinner 5:00p.m.-11:00p.m. On Saturday during lunch, there is a complementary Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Happy hour is Tuesday -Friday 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. with $4.00 Martini specials. Tana has a full bar and also offers Tej (Ethiopian Honey Wine), the only place in town that offers it. This coming Sunday Tana will have a Mother's Day special menu complete with the coffee ceremony. This and other restaurants--Red Room, Abaye, Royal Caribbean--are an essential part of the amazing renaissance of East Liberty, something we in Highland Park should support to keep them flourishing. Hello Highland Park Rotary, PNC Pedal Pittsburgh 2008, an event of the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh, is coming up on Sunday, May 18th. I am looking for several volunteers to help serve fruit and water at the Highland Park Rest Stop at the Reservoir and also 1 or 2 individuals to help keep biker riders safe by being a Course Marshal at an Intersection in the neighborhood. No matter which task you choose, you're sure to have a great time, meet new people, and help make the event a success!
