Bob PRESS RELEASE RESOURCE FAIR FOR UNEMPLOYED AND DISPLACED WORKERS TO BE HELD TOMORRROW (PITTSBURGH) February 23, 2009 Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced today that a resource fair will be held on the South Side tomorrow in order to assist and connect the unemployed with jobs and community resources. The fair, sponsored by the Pennsylvania departments of Labor & Industry, Insurance, Public Welfare, PA CareerLink Pittsburgh Allegheny County and the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board is free and open to the public. The fair will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Hall, 5 Hot Metal Street (near 29th and East Carson). Free parking will be provided and the location is accessible by public transit (51 B/D/G). This event is not a job fair. It is an outlet for community resources that may be able to help the unemployed and jobseekers get back on their feet. A series of concurrent workshops will be held throughout the day that will provide participants with information ranging from health care options, support services for families, and financial and job search assistance. "Though Pittsburgh's unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the nation, our residents are not immune to the economic crisis," Ravenstahl said. "This fair will be a one-stop-shop for residents who need help with job-placement, utility and food assistance, avoiding foreclosure, and health care." "We're proud and happy to join along with the other sponsors to present this resource fair to promote the awareness of the assistance that is out there," said Ron Painter, Chief Executive Officer of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board. Hi. My name is Sean and I am looking for an apartment for my dog and myself. My budget is $400/month+util, and I would really like to try to stay in the Highland Park/Morningside area but I would also be open to a place across the river around Shaler, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, and the Fox Chapel Area. I am 28 years old, I work full time in construction, and go to school part time working on my degree in Elementary Education. My dog is a 9 year old, friendly, black lab name Boo. He is well trained, well mannered, and quiet. We are looking for a place starting anytime between now, and April 1st at the latest and are willing to live with roomates as well. [Highland Park] Pastoral Note for Parish and Neighborhood

We remember in our best thoughts and prayers this morning our good friend and Highland Park neighbor Clarke Thomas, who died this past Saturday. We would express our sympathy, affection, and care to Jean, and to all the family. Visitation is Wednesday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at McCabe's on Walnut Street in Shadyside (behind Sacred Heart Church), and service is 5 p.m. Thursday at First Methodist, Center at Aiken. Clarke had a great career as journalist and editor, and he and Jean have been important leaders in the wider community, and exceptionally active and engaged in their retirement years. The Clarkes were regular in attendance at music and educational events here at St. Andrew's, of course, and were volunteers and supporters through the East End Cooperative Ministry and many other venues for community service. They were among the founding members of the Community of Reconciliation and both Clarke and Jean devoted much of their lives passionately to concerns for racial justice. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. The news obituary is on page B-3 of the Monday, February 23, Post-Gazette.
