As there was a lot of interest from other list-members in the results of my request for dog-walkers/sitters, I'm sharing all the responses. There are quite a few! thanks, richard • I use Elly Mae's Critter Sitters -- call Mary Beth at 412/661-5156 -- she is a delight, very professional and lives very close to Highland Park -- she has never let me down in regards to care for my dog & cat! • I live in Highland Park myself and walk dogs. Todd also owns a doggie day care (King of Pet Care) in the Point Breeze neighborhood -- we take our dogs there once a week, and they love it. King of Pet Care also has a groomer, so we get our dogs groomed there as well. • I highly recommend Maribeth Lashuk and Elly May’s Critter Sitters. We have used her for several years now, and she is completely trustworthy, wonderful with dogs, reliable, and lives in the neighborhood. They are located in the Strip District on Penn Avenue, so they are relatively convenient for drop off and pick up on you way in to town. [Highland Park] Kids' activities for last two Reservoir of Jazz Sundays

Hello Neighbors, I wanted to update you on the kids activities for the next two Sundays during Reservoir of Jazz. This Sunday, August 23rd, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts will be doing the kids activity. I know it will be lots of fun so be sure to attend. For August 30, I am looking for a volunteer or two to lead an activity because I have another commitment on that day. If you are available and interested, please call me today at (412) 370-3778. I have 4 gallons of spring water, cups, and juice pouches I will give you for refreshments. I can also lend Kids Committee supplies like sacks & cones for relay races. This is not a difficult task: you simply pick an activity (consulting with kids is always helpful), purchase enough supplies for about 30 kids (you will be reimbursed), and bring them to the park at about 4:45 p.m. to set up. We usually have one or two trusty volunteers (thank you John, Erin and Sarah!!) who show up to help. Thank you for stepping up and caring about your neighborhood's kids!! You will have fun! Jana

[Highland Park] a project for an animal lover

The maintenance guys at the park, Jack and Rich, asked me to put this information out to the neighborhood in a completely unofficial capacity. The situation as it was told to me goes like this: There are a couple cats who are living near the super playground. The cats are being fed by someone, but with winter coming, there is concern that these cats might become feral. (I confess I have very little understanding of this so if this doesnt add up, I apologize. Don't shoot the messenger please. ) The project would involve someone coming to the superplayground with "humane traps" to capture these cats and take them to the humane society. It is imperative that the traps be attended at all times. So the idea is that someone come up there in the morning, open a can of tuna and wait. If the cats dont show up, take the traps away and come back another day. The main idea is you cant leave the traps there. I am communicating this in a completely unofficial capacity as a favor to these guys who do such a nice job maintaining the park for us.
