[Highland Park] potential bamboo dumping?

Hi neighbors, I wanted to thank those of you who take the time to email the listserv to report crimes and/or suspicious activities to your neighbors. One of your emails potentially saved us from some trouble today. A while ago someone posted a message about someone dumping bamboo into his/her neighbors parking spot. This afternoon, while I was in the kitchen, a blue pickup truck stopped in the alleyway next to the house our apartment is in (Heth's Way-- we're in Morningside). I immediately took notice because they had a large load of bamboo, and I remembered the email. I was watching out the window and the two men jumped out and started unhooking the bungee cables that were holding the bamboo down. I believe they were planning to dump it in our trash area. My husband went outside, and one of the men hurried back into the truck and the other one fiddled around with the bamboo and said loudly to his friend "He thinks we're trying to dump this". Then he got in the truck and they left. I just thought I'd pass along this information to the neighborhood. Thanks, Nikole

Hi neighbors, We're moving next weekend, and we have a few things we've decided we don't want to take along with us. I thought I'd offer them up to you first. I've attached photos of each of the items. - Women's size 8 brown leather Clark's shoes. I bought them, but ended up never wearing them. I paid $50 at an outlet, but I'll sell them for $20 - White, Space-saver bathroom cabinet- it fits over the toilet. $15 - Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S650 7.2 mega-pixels- We still have the owner's manual, software disk, and cable to connect to your computer. This is a great camera, we just recently upgraded. $20 -Kodak EasyShare CX6200 2.0 mega-pixels- Older digital camera, but it still works really well. [Highland Park] Dog Boarding/Daycare

I just read the sad news about the lab puppy who is sick from a dog "day care", kennel. I sure hope that the baby is ok and recovers. I am writing however because I think some people are still not aware that there are alternatives to taking your dog to a kennel, day care or any care that requires you to take your dog outside of your pet's home. A pet sitter,, no,, I don't mean the kid next door. I mean a professional pet sitter. I did this for years until I moved to California. AND, IF you have MORE than one dog or also have a cat or whatever,, it is usually the same price and would be cheaper than taking your dog to be around a strange place and strange stressed out dogs. Go to petsit.com or just google pet sitter and you should come up with lots of sitters. Make sure they have been in business a long time,,, that this is the ONLY business that they have, that they are not a college kid doing it for spare money, make sure they are bonded and insured. If you do google,,, do not use anyone from the group called "Care." I think that is what they are called. They are a bunch of school kids and I would not trust them. Hire a professional. I used to stay overnight at many of my clients homes while they were gone. The dogs would sleep with me in their guest bedroom. But, for the most part, I went three times a day to take care of all of their pets. I based my fee on time,, not on number of pets. Anyway,, I realize I am sounding like a commercial,, so I'll close for now. Hope everyone is having a great summer! Marlene Bloom

Pittsburgh Arsenal K-5 will institute the use of uniforms this fall. The vast majority of Somali refugee families attend this school and are confronted with the task of obtaining clothing that meets the dress code. If anyone would like to hand-down the following, I would be happy to distribute it to the families in need. * TOPS: light yellow, navy blue, or baby blue collared oxford or polo shirts (short and long sleeves) * BOTTOMS: navy blue or khaki pants, walking shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers * BELTS: black and brown belts * SWEATERS: solid white or navy blue cardigan sweaters I am happy to pick-up from you or have you drop off on my front porch.
