The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is hiring a full time School Administrator. The Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school. The Administrator will coordinate school policy and ensure effective and timely communication within the school community. Together with the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees, the Administrator acts as leader and guide in the realization of the purpose, values, and vision of the school and in the development of strategic and long-range goals. Working out of Anthroposophy, the Administrator is responsible for the supervision and oversight of the finances of the school, human resources, development, enrollment, marketing and public relations, school records, physical plant and facilities management, administrative tasks and legal and regulatory compliance. This position is reviewed jointly by the Board of Trustees, Full Faculty, and Administrative Staff. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Waldorf education, an interest in Anthroposophy, a sense of balance, a straightforward communication style, solid organizational skills and the vision and strength to help the school achieve its educational and institutional goals. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Education or related field; In addition, Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred; Expectations of, within three years of employment, enrollment in an approved program of continuing professional development; Minimum of 5 years professional experience, including a supervisory role; Proven abilities to provide administrative leadership to a non-profit organization; Knowledge of regulations governing non-profits; Familiarity with MS Office with special emphasis on Excel spreadsheets for budget analysis; Excellent oral and written communication skills, including abilities in consensus building, problem solving, and mediation; Proven skills in budget development and implementation; Understands and has commitment to the study of Rudolf Steiner’s child development, Waldorf Education, and Anthroposophy; Has experience working with conflict resolution/problem solving; Certified teacher desirable; Excellent social abilities and interpersonal skills. [Highland Park] New 2013 Assessments

Hello Neighbors, Does anyone have an answer to this question? I charted the land values of the houses on my block and the block to the left and right of mine (37 houses) looking for some consistency. I took the assessed value of the land and divided by the square footage of the land to determine the assessed cost per square foot. I did this because I thought that the land in these three blocks should be comparable. The question: How are the land values determined? The 37 houses each had a different cost per square foot and the range was $4.74/SQFT to $33.99/SQFT. The only consistency I found was that the larger the lot --the less per SQFT. Corner lots less. Smaller lots more. The % increase went from 252% to 706% 5 houses under $10 dollars/SQFT 18 houses in the $10 to $20 dollar/SQFT range 13 houses in the $20 to $30 dollar/SQFT range 1 house in the $30 to $40 dollar/SQFT range (smallest lot) I called the county tax assessment office and they didn't have an answer but they gave me the Lexington assessors office number and they also had no explanation on how the values were determined. They said to appeal, but I want to know the method for setting the land value. I wouldn't complain if I could see some consistency or logic. Lynn Raith

L. Kennedy Meat Stand- Locally grown meat from the Kennedy's.  Get to the market early before they sell out! Kistaco Farm continues to have locally raised apples.  Apple varieties this week include Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Cameo, Empire, Idared, and Rome.  Of course, fresh pressed cider will be available. Zang's will have many fresh fruits and vegetables.  Two special items will be red swiss chard, and locally grown micro arugala. There will be a variety of fruits and vegetables available throughout the market from Zang's, Greenawalt and Kistaco stands.  Some are still locally grown items and some are "imported."  If you are interested in locally grown, please feel free to ask the farmers which items are local. Florida citrus is in its prime so we have beautiful oranges, nectarines and grapfruits for making fresh squeezed juice.Since the weather has turned cold, we will have hot chocolate- back by popular demand!PA Made Cheese We have a fresh batch of goat milk chevre and feta from Riverview Dairy.  Also, fresh curds from Arsenal Cheese. California Olive Oil Connection Olive Oil update-  I am heading out to California on Sunday and will be visiting 2 farms in Santa Ynez- Figueroa and Olinda Ridge.  I have been carrying these oils consistently for the last 2 years, so it will great to meet the folks who grow the olives and produce these oils.  I hope to do a lot of tasting and then get some of my favorite oils shipped to Pittsburgh to sell at the market. Raisins and Almonds We have been carrying organically grown dried fruits from Van Dyke Organics in Gilroy, CA for a while now.  These are great items for the winter months- apricots, pears, nectarines and persimmons. We are about to get raisins and almonds from Marian Farms in Fresno.  They are grown using biodynamic methods which is an even more intensive method than organic.  The almonds were just harvested last week, flash pasturized and sent to us.  They are in transit now so I am not sure if they will be here for Saturday or for next week.  I am really exicted about the almonds.  Since they are raw (unroasted) they can be used to make things like fresh almond milk.  We will be serviing fresh made almond milk at the juice bar.
