Dear Neighbors, We may be adopting a dog from the pound in East Liberty. Does anyone happen to have a relatively clean dog crate for a medium-sized (i.e., 50lb) dog they're no longer using? [Highland Park] Reservoir of Jazz is cancelled today

The concert tonight is cancelled because of the weather. Something about playing with electricity on a metal stage in the rain. The Reservoir of Jazz concerts will continue next Sunday, August 12th, when World Jazz with Preach Freedom & Friends will be playing from 5-7 pm at the entrance to Highland Park. See you next week. [Highland Park] Pedal Pittsburgh - Cycling Laws?

Were Pennsylvania cycling laws somehow repealed for this particular event? Do the organizers of “Pedal Pittsburgh” support Pennsylvania Law? Or is it that we’re just seeing the somewhat (note: that “somewhat” doesn’t mean always or every) common “I am above the law” mindset of Pgh. cyclists riding in packs? Or is it that cyclists are not aware of the law? I draw your attention to section 3301(e) of: PENNSYLVANIA BICYCLE LAWS Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes Which can be downloaded here in a .pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0C… “(e) Limitation on riding abreast. -- Persons riding pedalcycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two abreast, except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of pedalcycles.” “Pedal Pittsburgh” should have made this obvious to all participants. If they didn’t, then I openly call them on their lack of responsibility and suggest a change for the next event that requires participants to sign something stating that they are aware of Pennsylvania cycling laws. ------------------- Following 6 and more abreast, and later, seeing 2 full lanes filled, when they are sitting at a traffic light waiting to turn left, certainly makes one wonder. Watching the completed left turn and seeing once again 4 or more abreast, taking up the whole extra wide lane confirms either lack of knowledge or disregard for the law. I don’t mind waiting. I just sit and marvel at amazing lack of common sense. Bikers - - - please rent a clue! Think! This type of behavior endangers everyone on the road. Who do I contact regarding noise ordinance laws in the city? I know the information has been posted on the listserve before on the topic of motorcycles, and I'd just like to see if the complaint we have is something that can be addressed or if it's something that we need to just deal with.
