PPS announced on its Facebook page that Grab and Go meals will be available at all 54 school locations from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday through Friday. Here is the complete announcement: All PPS schools will close Monday, March 16, 2020 through at least Friday, March 27, 2020. Governor Tom Wolf announced the closure of all schools across the commonwealth for 10 days. The Governor’s action protects districts from being penalized for failing to meet the 180 days or school hour requirement. In addition to schools, all Early Head Start, PreK, and Center programs are also closed. For students that depend on our school breakfast and lunch program, Grab and Go meals will be available at all 54 school locations from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday through Friday. Students are instructed to go to the school location closest to their home. All athletics and events are cancelled during the closure, as well as this Saturday’s SAT testing at Pittsburgh Obama and Allderdice. HPCC Response to Covid-19 1. Connecting Neighbors in Need: NEW *HPCC Helping Hands* Facebook page Great people make a great neighborhood. As our community begins to respond to the Covid-19 outbreak, neighbors are already reaching out, trying to identify and connect with those in need. To help facilitate those connections, the HPCC has created a resource on Facebook, HPCC Helping Hands : https://www.facebook.com/groups/HPCCNeighborsHelp/about/ This group is open to Highland Park residents and businesses and is designed for posting requests for help and offers of assistance. The purpose is to connect neighbors who are quarantined, social distancing, or ill with other neighbors who can offer assistance. For example, post and respond to requests for grocery drop off, prescription pick-up, and any other needs that may come up. This type of social networking tool works best when there is a critical mass of people participating. To get it up and running, we need you to join, follow, and invite your HP friends and neighbors to do the same. Because not everyone is on Facebook, we also encourage you to check-in with your neighbors and post requests for them as needed. This page is only for connecting people. Please use other venues for sharing news, political messages, and selling items or services. And always, be kind, be helpful, and take care of each other. 1. Posting information and resources The HPCC will continue to post reliable news, updates, and community resources on its website (https://hpccpgh.org/) and Facebook page (Highland Park Community Council Pittsburgh). 1. Cancelling the March Community Meeting The Community Meeting scheduled for Thursday March 19 is now cancelled. March FOCUS Pittsburgh collection this coming Wednesday, 18 MAR 2020, starting at 9:00 AM for Non-Perishable Food and Personal Hygiene Items

Dear Neighbors, We are again letting our neighborhood know that we will be driving the neighborhood picking up for the monthly FOCUS Collection this coming Wednesday, 18 MAR 2020. We will be around the neighborhood at 9:00 AM that morning, so we are looking for non-perishable food, and Personal Hygiene Items, especially Feminine Products. PLEASE NO CLOTHES on this month's pickup, as FOCUS has moved locations, and is working on setting up both storage, as well as distribution at the new location. Not only has Focus moved a couple of blocks, but has also changed its name to Neighborhood Resilience Project, however it remains under the direction of Father Paul Abernathy. Please note the attachment with their Mission Statement and Impact Programs. Please donate, as these are all needed and we are running our monthly pick-up from the neighborhood for Supplies for FOCUS, now Neighborhood Resilience Project !!! Last month we took a smaller load, and it was so needed and so much appreciated. Mike and Brigette Nadler, are coordinating the Highland Park pick up. If you are inclined to help, leave the supplies on your front porch, then we will pick up and get your donations to FOCUS, now Neighborhood Resilience Project. So we are doing this again this coming Wednesday, 18 MAR 2020. We will be around starting at 9:00 AM, and need to get the donations there by noon. Please DO NOT drop off here, as we do not have a way of storing donations. Hello Neighbors, Please keep your eye out for a missing or mistakenly taken "have-a-heart" live trap. My pet sitter set up the trap in the 800 block of Mellon Street in the effort to catch a couple of feline strays for TNR (trap, neuter, release). Taking care of each other in the age of COVID

Dear neighbors, I am a geriatrician (doctor who takes care of older adults) and my colleagues and I are preparing for the worst (while hoping for the best) in terms of the effects that this virus will have on our patients. At the same time, there are many in our community who are already and will continue to feel significant social isolation and economic hardship as a result of the necessary measures to slow the spread. I am equally worried about these effects. This is a time when it is critical to look out for our neighbors and our community, particularly those most at risk and vulnerable. I want to encourage everyone to make sure you know your neighbors, get people's phone numbers and check in on each other -- particularly those who are older or living alone. This is a time to lean on each other and ask for help when you need it. We all have something to offer, whether it be picking up food for someone who can't leave their home, caring for an additional child for someone who has no other childcare options or simply reminding your neighbor that they are not alone. I encourage those who use this list serve to express any needs they have to see if they can be met by others in this incredibly caring community of neighbors. Stay safe, and let's take care of each other. It's times like these when we must show our true colors. We will get through this, and leaning on each other will help.
