Thanksgiving Food Drive for Seniors - Goal Reached!!!

Once again the neighborhood has shown how wonderful it is! Three days ago we announced that we were collecting food and financial donations to put toward 30 bags of Thanksgiving trimmings for the folks served by Vintage Senior Center. Since then people have dropped off 16 bags of food and contributed more than enough funds for us to purchase what's needed for the remaining bags. We will still accept contributions through next Thursday and any additional food or funds will be donated to Vintage; food and gift cards can be left at 1315 N. Sheridan Ave and online contributions can be made at HPPCPgh.org (the shopping list is still posted there, too). A special shout out to the family that included two delightful children's Thanksgiving drawings in their bag! If other kids would like to contribute pictures, please bring them by - - I think that they would be a nice addition to the bags and surely brighten anyone's day! Also, as a heads up, we are working with some other community organizations to provide more opportunities for giving and for serving in December - so stay posted! Thank you again for your generosity. Hi Neighbors, Romp n' Roll Pittsburgh is a kids' gym that offers a wide variety of gym, art, and music classes for children through 5 years of age. We also offer camps, kids night out, special events and amazing birthday parties! We are currently looking to hire some local high school or undergrad students to help us host our super fun birthday parties! The hours would vary and are extremely flexible. Minimum hours per week would be 2 and max would be 8. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have reliable transportation. Pay is based on experience but starts at $8 per hour. Here's the full background of the Neighborway to the best of my understanding: People were running stop signs and causing T-bone collisions at some intersections along N. Euclid. DOMI was looking for ways to reduce accidents at those intersections. They were also looking for ways to safely connect neighborhoods for pedestrians and cyclists. They identified N. Euclid as a good option for a neighborway because the circles will reduce accidents at the problem intersections, and the *series *of traffic circles makes the entire corridor from Highland Park to East Liberty a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists. During the pilot they realized that some people weren't slowing sufficiently at the circles so the stop signs were installed as a way to reinforce the need to slow down. The intention is to eventually replace the stop signs with yield signs again. Other changes from the original plans resulting from the pilot include the elimination of the circle at Stanton; changes in signage; restrictions on the size of plantings that will be allowed; and changes in circle diameter. They were provided by the Department of Infrastructure and Mobility (DOMI) and maintained by neighborhood volunteers. Several weeks ago when the plants had clearly passed their peak, we asked DOMI to remove them which they did at all but one location. I'm not sure how they missed it, but I let them know about it today and they said they'd send someone to remove the pots ASAP. I also asked for an update on the project itself and was told that construction was supposed to begin any time now, but construction crews are heavily booked and they are waiting to finish the Reynolds St and Bloomfield Friendship Neighborways first. They said they hope that the weather holds out and the traffic circles can be installed in the next few weeks. My contact also said that they'd let me know when they have further updates (which I'll share) and apologized for the delays "as COVID and overall city need has impacted the construction season much more than anyone would like." By the way, a great way to stay up-to-date on what's happening in the neighborhood is to *attend HPCC Zoom Community Meetings!
