Upcoming Shooting Range Activity & New Noise Log

Please see the information below from Commander Vinanski regarding upcoming use of the firing range. The HPCC is collecting information to document the community’s experience of noise from the police shooting range. The range is located east of Washington Boulevard, about halfway up the hill that leads to the Shuman Center and the former Veteran’s VA Hospital. If you hear noise from the shooting range, please use this form <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSentVbrJtRTBOSTqyIBVNKhueHR0gPV5WT…> to provide us information including the date, length of time, location, and impact to you or others. When the form is submitted, it creates a record in the HPCC’s database for shooting range noise; any personal information that you choose to submit will not be shared outside of the HPCC. The form is also available from the HPCC website HPCCPgh.org under About / Public Safety. >From Commander Vinanski: The police shooting range will be having more activity starting next week, due to annual qualifications that must be made for every Pittsburgh Police Officer. The range schedule is as follows; Most Mondays through Thursdays (4 days) a week, beginning Monday March 15, and ending Thursday June 24. Presently, there are no Fridays or late night shoots scheduled. The times are from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM, however, many classes may be done by 7:00 PM. The classes are scheduled for 7:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 5:00 PM, a total of three per day. The live shooting will likely not start until closer to 8:00 AM, for the AM class. As the scheduling goes now, there are not as many classes in May and June, and there are many days which do not have all three classes. Presently, there are no new noise new mitigation measures in place, but a meeting will be scheduled to include updates on this issue.
