I am honored to invite you to join me in celebrating this milestone as the season unfolds. The Fall season highlights the Opening Reception of Calendar Girls in the House of Tilden on Friday, September 26, at 5:30pm, <https://kellystrayhorntheater.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket/#/events/a0SVO…> curated by the co-founder of the Pittsburgh Queer History Project, Dr. Harrison Apple. The archival exhibition explores House of Tilden (H.O.T.), founded by Robert “Lucky” Johns in East Liberty, which was a hallmark after-hours queer disco and a key site of subcultural politics and pleasure during the neighborhood’s mid-century upheaval. The season shines on with celebrated artist David Roussève/REALITY returning to KST for the world premiere of Becoming Daddy AF on Friday and Saturday, September 26 - 27 <https://kellystrayhorntheater.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket/#/events/a0SVO…>. This dance-theater piece is a moving portrait of a queer African American man aware of his aging, which consequently leads to this powerful meditation on life’s purpose. I’ve had the chance to chat with Dr. Apple to learn more about how H.O.T. was not only known for its dance disco and queens, but how it was also part of the underground networks where power can be created in ways that are not part of our political system or our policing system. David Roussève inspired me by speaking on how bringing ourselves out of the mundane of the everyday can be done through dance.
