On October 12th the Highland Park Community Council is hosting our *annual Pumpkin Patch at the Bryant St. Parklet at the corner of Bryant & Euclid. * Pumpkins are free with donations suggested to help cover the costs. We also be hosting *Brainstorming Activities for the future of the Bryant St. Parklet! *This is part of our 80 for 80 campaign <https://hpccpgh.org/80for80> to fundraise $80,000 over the next two years to support Bryant St, the Parklet, and our community programming. We encourage you to walk on down to the parklet between *11am and 2pm on Sunday October 12th*. Take a fall photo amongst the hay and pumpkins. Pick a pumpkin for Halloween. I don’t know if the dog stop on Washington blvd still has retail rewards cards but if they do I have 4 completed cards and one almost completed card that I can’t use. Let me know if you want them. We will have two presentations: Councilpeople Mosley and Gross will be talking to us about the plans for a Public Safety training facility at the old VA Hospital in Lincoln-Lemmington, for which City Council recently and unanimously approved funding. We will also have a short presentation from Casa San Jose about what to do if ICE is in your neighborhood, including how to stay safe and how to be a helpful bystander to your neighbors. Queer Puerto Rican artist Moire del Carmen will be presenting her Baquiné at KST’s Alloy Studios on Friday and Saturday, October 3 - 4, at 7:30pm <https://kelly-strayhorn-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/2oveAVhLFD_CIYxNHPFDpgNQ…> . The inspiration from Baquiné comes from a traditional belief that when a child dies, it is not a cause for mourning because an angel is born from their innocent soul. It is a theater piece described as an absurd romp through death and back. This *humorous one-act play* follows Moire and her friends as they grapple with loss, trying to make art while the seductive pull of death threatens to consume them. This theater performance pays homage to this tradition by exploring the cycle of death and rebirth that trans people embody during their coming-out journey. Baquiné explores Moire’s thoughts of her own life, mourning the death of a close friend, and the mystery of the afterlife. Plus, it’s a performance in progress, which means that *you’re part of the creative process* and your feedback is invaluable! Hope to see you! We’re having a yard sale this Sunday, October 5, from 9am to noon. 901 N Negley Ave (corner of Negley & Jackson) We’ll have lots of new or barely used toys, kids craft kits, girls clothing (8-10 year), tween jewelry and hair accessories, home items and decor, Halloween costumes and decor, some women’s clothing, and MANY 1000-piece puzzles (while I can’t guarantee that every piece is accounted for, I’m fairly certain that they are all complete, having been the one to do them and then put them back in the boxes myself).
