Recommendation - CCI Sound Home Plan

Spreading the word about a great resource, Conservation Consultants, Inc. (CCI). I’m a new homeowner in Highland Park and a neighbor recommended this fantastic local non-profit that conducts energy assessments on homes and small businesses. My original goal was to have them identify how to address some drafty areas, and I was so surprised at how comprehensive the assessment was. All rooms were professionally measured and all major appliances were assessed…and thank goodness, because they identified a very dangerous clog with my hot water heater that was starting to back carbon monoxide into my home. It was not yet at emergency levels, but it was not picked up during my pre-sale home inspection. They did lead testing, used infrared cameras to check on insulation density and used a blower door test to suck the air out of the home to identify where the drafty areas were. The cost was very reasonable and I have a fantastic report, complete with photos that identified areas to address immediately and what can wait, and projections about how much I could save on my energy bills if I made the improvements. Some I could do myself, such as updating the door sweep and putting some caulk around the entry door. They also have a list of bonded professionals and they are great at helping you to put together an action plan. Wonderful resource for all of us with old homes. All of the contractors are great…Virginia McGrath was mine and she is fantastic…I’ve emailed and called her since my assessment to ask her opinion about a couple of items. HELP this holiday season with a few special cats

Hi HP, In the past you have been champions at helping us home any dropped or dumped Kitties at our farm. We have hit max capacity with 7 strays that we have vetted, washed, flea treated, and most have been fixed. With cold weather setting in, our space for keeping these cats comfortable is limited. *Most Urgent-* *Mr.Kiwi*-2-3 yr old Russian Blue. neutered male [image: kiwi.jpg] He was someone's cat before he found us, and is the sweetest but he's special needs b/c he has ear polyps and doesn't get along with other cats. He is VERY people-affectionate and likes to cuddle. He gets on with dogs but he keeps fighting with the other feral toms and he's winning. If you or someone you know would like to give him a try PLEASE let us know. I can text youmore pics and videos. Biscuit and Bacon- are 2 female torbies (tortie/tabbies) sisters that were dumped at our farm when they were only 5 weeks. They are three months old now and just big enough for their spay surgeries. They are cat friendly and (dog curious) and very playful/snuggly. Vetted, shots, litter trained, and ready to come home! They are 6 months old, were bottle fed and are VERY socialized. The program pairs community volunteers with seniors and residents with disabilities who need assistance shoveling and salting their sidewalks and walkways throughout the winter. “I am excited to announce that the City’s Snow Angels program is returning for the 2022-2023 winter season,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “This program provides a vital service for our neighbors in need and ensures that our sidewalks stay safe for everyone during and after winter weather events. I am thankful for the youth groups and sports teams that have already answered the call to become snow angels and I encourage everyone who can to join us by going to pittsburghpa.gov/snowangels or calling 311.” Data from past years shows the number of neighbors in need of assistance far surpasses the number of volunteers who sign up in many areas of the city.
