Recommendation - CCI Sound Home Plan

Spreading the word about a great resource, Conservation Consultants, Inc. (CCI). I’m a new homeowner in Highland Park and a neighbor recommended this fantastic local non-profit that conducts energy assessments on homes and small businesses. My original goal was to have them identify how to address some drafty areas, and I was so surprised at how comprehensive the assessment was. All rooms were professionally measured and all major appliances were assessed…and thank goodness, because they identified a very dangerous clog with my hot water heater that was starting to back carbon monoxide into my home. It was not yet at emergency levels, but it was not picked up during my pre-sale home inspection. They did lead testing, used infrared cameras to check on insulation density and used a blower door test to suck the air out of the home to identify where the drafty areas were. The cost was very reasonable and I have a fantastic report, complete with photos that identified areas to address immediately and what can wait, and projections about how much I could save on my energy bills if I made the improvements. Some I could do myself, such as updating the door sweep and putting some caulk around the entry door. They also have a list of bonded professionals and they are great at helping you to put together an action plan. Wonderful resource for all of us with old homes. All of the contractors are great…Virginia McGrath was mine and she is fantastic…I’ve emailed and called her since my assessment to ask her opinion about a couple of items. Missing Cat

Our cat, Zooky, wandered off sometime earlier this evening (Saturday, 6/12). She likes to go outside in warm weather to lay in the sun, but she typically does not leave our back deck and yard. The few times she has, she has not come home on her own but has rather been found and returned by kind strangers - so I’m not sure that she actually knows her way home. She is 13 years old, very small (5 or 6 lbs), friendly and affectionate, and not in great health. She has two chronic conditions (kidney and upper respiratory) for which she receives regular treatment. She is not wearing a collar but she is microchipped with our information. Before I go to Craigslist, I'd like to offer this sturdy, beautiful piece to HP neighbors. It's deadfall redwood, 88 inches long, 30 inches at its widest and 15 inches high. I brought it with me when I moved to Highland Park and it's been in the basement (clean, with a dehumidifier) ever since, as it's just a bit too large for the living room. It's time to give it a home where it can be enjoyed. It has enough surface to be useful without a glass plate on top. You would need to move it and it takes two people--pretty heavy. $750 cash.
