This position is currently shared among 3 physicians at 2 different locations (Highland Park and Allison Park). We primarily use Mac computers. There are 2 different electronic medical record systems being used. About 75% of the work is in the front office (answering phones, handling faxes, etc) and requires computer skills and the ability to learn how to access both electronic medical record systems and learn specific work processes for the physicians. Some of the work could be done from home. The position would take place in Allison Park from 9 a - 4 p on M/W and at Highland Park office from 9a-2p on T/Th. All the docs are also moms and have young families, so we are somewhat flexible and willing to work with you on the schedule if you are a great fit! To increase awareness about the challenges facing Pittsburgh’s sewers, Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) is releasing videos and photos about the illegal dumping and improper items flushed down toilets and put down the drain. Will Pickering, CEO of Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, said: “Sewers are often taken for granted. Most people don’t think about what goes down the drain or flushed down the toilet. But when items enter the sewer that aren’t meant to be there, the results can wreak havoc on a neighborhood and be costly for PWSA to fix.” Kate Mechler, Deputy Director of Engineering said: “PWSA is asking everyone to protect their plumbing and sewers by only flushing things that belong in sewers: toilet paper and human waste.” Wipes are sometimes labeled as “flushable,” but wipes, unlike toilet paper, do not break down once flushed. Wipes will absorb fats, oils, and greases that have entered the sewer system, congeal into hardened boulders, and can form major blockages that prevent stormwater and sanitary wastewater from properly flowing through the system. That is why PWSA is asking all residents and businesses to be mindful to put wipes and fats, oils, and greases in the trash <https://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0013DvK3MsmHHZW4_n-l2W-A5-DO7xf-gJqCE1hlwLH3oD…> – not in the toilet or down the drain. Concrete illegally poured into the sewer system hardens, causes backups, and results in expensive repairs that impact all Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority customers. Mechler continued: “We also have a problem with illegal dumping in sewers, and we’re asking all Pittsburghers to report any improper dumping they see at stormwater grates, manholes, or sewer outfalls. Some concrete and cement companies improperly dispose of cement into our sewers. Even if it is watered down when it enters the system, cement and concrete will harden in the sewers and create blockages that causes wastewater to back up into people’s basements or causes flooding on to streets when it rains.” Fats, oils, and grease, wipes, and items illegally dumped into the sewer system also make it more difficult to treat wastewater. Wastewater is sent from Pittsburgh to the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN), located on the Ohio River to treat. Anything other than human waste and toilet paper entering the treatment process can cause equipment to break and introduce contaminants that are more difficult to remove before the water is clarified and released back into the Ohio River. Arletta Scott Williams, Executive Director of ALCOSAN said: “Treating wastewater is the ultimate recycling process - something no one really thinks about. Every day we treat millions of gallons of wastewater that is released back into the Ohio River to become drinking water for another community further downstream. Everyone needs to do their part to provide clean, safe, reliable water.” In addition to the illegal dumping of concrete and cement, PWSA also reports it has found items including hot water heaters, kegs, 55-gallon drums, weapons, and a car axel with four tires still attached in the sewers. PWSA encourages anyone who sees illegal dumping of cement, concrete or any item that doesn’t belong in the sewer, to please call 412-255-2423 right away. Judge Spurgeon will be speaking with us on August 31st on our porch at 5901 Hampton St, starting at 8pm. Though it is an "off year", there are still important elections coming up this fall, and this is one of them! Judge Spurgeon has served in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas since 2016. Assigned to the Family Division, he handles all matters involving children and families. He has been recognized as a national expert on domestic violence and has been named a Judicial Fellow by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges for his judicial leadership. In addition to our historic mayoral race, there are so many important state and local candidates running for office, particularly for the judiciary. The Thomas and McPherson Stormwater Project uses sustainable, green solutions to reduce local flooding and pollution in the Allegheny River FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 25, 2021 Media Contact: 412-430-3898 PWSA Breaks Ground on Green Stormwater Infrastructure in North Point Breeze The Thomas and McPherson Stormwater Project uses sustainable, green solutions to reduce local flooding and pollution in the Allegheny River Gravel storage systems will be constructed under the center median along portions of Thomas and McPherson Boulevards. Pittsburgh, PA - On Wednesday, August 25, the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA), the City of Pittsburgh, partners, and community members gathered to celebrate the start of construction on the Thomas and McPherson Stormwater Project in North Point Breeze. The construction investment of $4.42 million will build new stormwater infrastructure under the wide medians of Thomas and McPherson boulevards and on North Dallas Avenue, North Linden Avenue, and Starling Way. It also coordinates the replacement of aging water mains along McPherson Boulevard and replace all public and private lead service lines along McPherson Boulevard between Fifth Avenue and North Dallas Avenue and along North Linden from McPherson to Thomas boulevards. PWSA synchronized the stormwater, water main, and lead service line improvements in this neighborhood to minimize construction disruptions and more efficiently manage costs. “Pittsburgh is routinely impacted by intense and frequent storms that fall upon our region. Sustainable, green projects like Thomas and McPherson are needed in our communities to mitigate the effects of stormwater,” said Mayor William Peduto. “By making these green-first investments, we can better protect our neighborhoods, plan for climate change, and improve the quality of life for Pittsburgh residents.” By installing a system of new storm inlets, permeable pavers, and underground gravel storage, PWSA will slow the amount of water entering the combined sewer system and reduce the burden on existing infrastructure during storms. This will help to reduce local flooding, neighborhood basement sewage backups, and overflows of combined stormwater and sewage into the Allegheny River. “As the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority takes on more responsibility to manage stormwater, green solutions will remain an important strategy of our growing stormwater program,” said Will Pickering, PWSA’s Chief Executive Officer. “The Thomas and McPherson project is a prime example of how we can work with the existing landscape of a neighborhood, coordinate infrastructure solutions and make the necessary investment to provide essential stormwater protection.” Green Stormwater Solutions at Work Storm inlets along the street will capture and direct rainwater into gravel storage systems installed under the medians of Thomas and McPherson Boulevards and along North Dallas Avenue. These layers of small stones contain empty spaces, called voids, that allow water to flow through and fill up the space. Underground gravel storage is ideal for urban environments because it can support the weight of paving and vehicles. This project will also use permeable pavers in some areas to direct rainwater into underground gravel storage. Permeable pavers, which look like bricks, are designed to allow water to soak through their cracks. Permeable paver parking lanes with underground gravel storage will be constructed at North Linden Avenue, and Starling Way will be transformed into a “green alley” using permeable pavers and underground gravel storage. The Thomas and McPherson project is designed to manage stormwater within an area of 17.7 acres and manage 470,000 gallons of stormwater runoff. The Thomas and McPherson Stormwater Project area in North Point Breeze includes stormwater improvements, water main replacements, and lead service line replacements. Construction Activity Underway The Thomas and McPherson Stormwater Project was designed by Wade Trim and will be constructed by Frank J. Zottola Construction, Inc. with construction management by Michael Baker International. PWSA coordinated with the City of Pittsburgh’s Forestry Division to protect healthy mature street trees during design and construction. Partial funding for the project is provided by the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) Green Revitalization of Our Waterways (GROW) grant program. Construction crews from Frank J. Zottola Construction, Inc. began mobilizing construction on Monday, August 16 to begin stormwater infrastructure renovations on portions of Thomas Boulevard. Construction will be split into phases to minimize disruption to the entire neighborhood. Crews will be working on Thomas Boulevard through fall 2021. Starting in spring 2022, construction will continue along McPherson Boulevard, North Linden Avenue, North Dallas Avenue, and Starling Way. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2022, weather pending. The construction hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Friday will serve as a make-up day. Traffic detours will be posted, and flaggers will be on site to help direct traffic. No parking signs will be posted where active construction work is taking place.
