RE:Highland Park: Food collection for EECM at St. Andrew's Church

Hello, neighbors! St. Andrew's will be collecting food for EECM from now until the end of March. Food donations can be placed in the bins on the porch of the offices at St. Andrew's. The bins will be taken every night. Please no expired items or glass jars. We will accept any non-perishable food and dry goods. However, EECM has a particular need of these items. Canned tomato sauce spaghetti and macaroni pasta instant mashed potatoes canned soups canned fruit in water oatmeal and whole grain cereal mac and cheese boxes white and brown rice Non-Food Items Ziploc bags, any size napkins paper towels brown bags, for bagged lunches take out boxes 60 gallon trash bags St. Andrew's is located at 5801 Hampton St. Thank you to everyone who donated towels and pot holders. This year was the largest collection we ever donated and it was thanks to all of the wonderful people in this neighborhood. Thank you, Becky Marinov

Health officials continue to encourage pandemic protocols restricting large crowds and encouraging mask-wearing, social distancing and hand-washing. Bar and restaurant occupancy restrictions will reduce crowd sizes at traditional holiday gathering spots, including the Southside, North Shore and Downtown. The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade has been moved to the fall. While many people are understandably weary of pandemic restrictions, Pittsburgh Public Safety urges continued vigilance, and promises a continued focus on keeping everyone safe and catching law-breakers. “Now is not the time to let down our guard,” Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said. “Covid-19 has forced us down a long and unwanted path, but this journey will near its end if—and only if—we maintain our discipline in fighting this virus.” As always, Director Hissrich announced a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive and illegal behavior, to include underage drinking, public intoxication and drinking and driving. Pittsburgh Police and partner law enforcement agencies will monitor crowds for any illegal activity, and DUI Patrols will actively seek anyone who drives under the influence. Open container laws will be strictly enforced. While the state has allowed restaurants to sell cocktails-to-go during the pandemic, it is illegal for such beverages to be consumed in public spaces. Please note that anyone caught with an open container will be cited. Pittsburgh Fire officials will conduct occupancy checks, and will clear and close any establishment that exceeds occupancy limits. Law enforcement will also cite and arrest anyone caught illegally driving <https://pittsburghpa.gov/press-releases/press-releases/4727> off-road vehicles on city streets. We ask the public to send tips on such illegal rides to 412_TIPS(a)pittsburghpa.gov. Police will monitor City Security Cameras for illegal activity. Officers on horseback, bicycles, motorcycles and foot patrols will also be utilized. Lastly, Public Safety encourages anyone who chooses to go out to wear a mask, wash your hands and maintain social distancing. With more people getting vaccinated and practicing common sense precautions, life will return to normal. The time to celebrate publicly will come. Run for Hope with Haiti H2O

As I see all the runners in the neighborhood and around Highland Park, I would like to invite you to join Haiti H2O for the 2021 Run for Hope, Saturday, May 1st, 8am on the North Shore. Since the Pittsburgh Marathon will be held virtually again this year, Haiti H2O is organizing an in-person race on marathon weekend that will allow you to get outside and run with others, at a safe social-distance. Haiti H2O: Hope to Opportunity is based in Highland Park and this is our 12th year as an official charity partner with the Pittsburgh Marathon. The start and finish line will be on the North Shore and routes follow paths/trails that keep you out of traffic/roads. There are courses for each length of the Marathon (see maps here <https://www.haitih2o.org/gallery-3>). Water stops will be available on every route and post-run snacks will be provided at the finish line celebration, along with medals and other swag. Free picnic table (that has seen better days)

Free 72” picnic table by Liftetime. A few years ago our neighbor’s tree fell on the picnic table, but it still remains sturdy, and I think it has a few more years in it. (It does flatten for transport.) Also included are a tablecloth with a center hole (for an umbrella) and bench coverings, as well as clips to hold them in place. Flattened for transport it is 72" by 60". It is a little wonky putting it together because of the tree issue, but the braces do lock in place.
