City Books Accepting Book Donations for the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center

Hello, Please find below information about a new program bringing books to start a library at the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. Also, the link provides the opportunity to donate funds toward developing and maintaining the library. City Books is now partnering with Jailbreak, an autonomous, free-form coalition of abolitionists in Pittsburgh working to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people inside of Allegheny County Jail, to develop the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center recreational library. City Books is accepting donations of gently used, age- (13-18) and reading level-appropriate (10-20) books in a variety of genres for Shuman’s library. Graphic novels and sci-fi fantasy have been specifically requested. Books can be dropped off at City Books, located at 908 Galveston Avenue, on Saturdays from 12-5 PM ONLY. Please do not leave books outside the store under any circumstances. Alternatively, the community is welcome to make financial contributions to the City Books Shuman Library Fund that will be used to purchase new books for the Shuman library. Donations can be made via credit card using the form below, or checks can be made out to City Books LLC and mailed to 908 Galveston Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233. Please note “Shuman Library Fund” in the memo section. All funds collected will go towards the City Books/Jailbreak effort to develop and maintain the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center recreational library.
