LAST DAY FOR CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING IN THE PARK! This is a message from Allegheny Alerts. The Allegheny County Parks Department is offering its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program this holiday season. Residents may drop off Christmas trees from Saturday, December 26, 2020, through Thursday, January 14, 2021, at all nine county parks from 8:00 am until dusk. All lights, decorations, tinsel and stands must be removed from trees prior to drop-off. Trees will be mulched and used in the county parks. Drop-off locations are: Boyce Park soccer fields parking lot; Deer Lakes Park Veterans Shelter parking lot; Harrison Hills Park parking lot at Chipmunk Drive & Cottontail Drive; Hartwood Acres Mansion parking lot; North Park Swimming Pool parking lot; Round Hill Park Alfalfa Shelter parking lot; Settlers Cabin Park Wave Pool parking lot; South Park Wave Pool parking lot; and White Oak Park Chestnut Shelter parking lot. During the 2019-20 program, approximately 3,500 trees were received and recycled, with the resulting mulch used for various purposes throughout the park system’s 12,000+ acres. Missing Poster Tube

Hi USPS was to deliver a poster to me today, January 13th. I received an alert that it was delivered but it is not here. Did anyone receive it? Hello, There are over 30 egg cartons, 25 or more foil lined 1 lb coffee containers with lids, and shopping bags full of TP tubes that are waiting to be part of art projects, group activities, etc. Please let me know and I will leave them out for you on our front porch!

Thank you to everyone who reached out about my bird ID request. Yes, as so many identified, it is a white breasted nuthatch. It isn’t really pecking into the tree like a wood pecker, but they do pick lots of insects off the bark and branches. Can you identify this bird?

Hi Highland Park birders! Since working from home, we moved a feeder so I see it from my new home office. And watching all the birds has been awesome. I’ve had a bird show up a few times now which is pale blue and appears to pick at the trees like a woodpecker but doesn’t look like any pics in my Peterson field guide. Can you help ID it? Sorry the pics aren’t great. Through a window and the digital zoom isn’t as clear. Thx for any help!!
