The Highland Park Garden Club presents... "Gardening for Children" Saturday, July 18, 2020 10 am - Noon Rachel Kudrick will lead a Zoom session focusing on a variety of ways to keep kids of all ages engaged in the garden. Adults and children are welcome to participate. This will include some hands-on ideas for preschool- through middle-school-aged kids as well as some educational pieces for ALL ages. She’ll have "hand-outs" that can be emailed to those interested after the meeting with project step-by-steps and information sheets. Jasper has been found

A very kind neighbor called me this morning at 8 am to let me know that someone had dropped off Jasper in his backyard between 6 and 7 am. Jasper is very thirsty, dusty and tired but we are so happy to have him back with us. Thank you for all your support and words of encouragement. Take care, go well, Jane

It’s hard to put in to words the amount of stress, dread, anxiety, and worry I’m currently feeling. We have less than 7 days to find homes for Snoop and Sweet Pea. They are the last 2 adults we have left. As most of you know, Pet Adoption League has to vacate their 2 buildings by July 15th. The kittens we currently have will go into foster care if they are not adopted by next week, but we don’t have anyone able to foster these two. Snoop I am not as worried about, because he’s a very friendly fellow and I expect him to get adopted if he goes to a different shelter. I am most worried about Sweet Pea. She is a sassy girl who may be labeled as aggressive if she goes to a different shelter with people who don’t know her. She takes time to get used to people. I worry about her fate if we have another shelter willing to take her. My biggest fear is that she will end up being euthanized if someone ends up deciding she is “aggressive”. She is not outwardly aggressive, she just has boundaries and needs the right person to respect those boundaries. She was adopted a few weeks ago, but was not even in her new home for 2 weeks before that person brought her back. Animals can take weeks to months to adjust to their new homes. Sweet Pea has been in our shelter for 2 YEARS. She is used to this. It’s going to take her a bit to adjust to a new home. She is not a cat you can pick up and hug and snuggle. You can not get in her face. She is a very sweet girl if you know how to treat her. I KNOW for a fact her perfect forever home is out there, she just needs someone willing to give her a chance and work with her. Bringing Sweet Pea into your home will require patience. She has had a very rough life. I know this cat and I assure you she is a very sweet girl once she gets to know you. She does have a sponsor so her adoption fee is reduced. If someone is willing to give her a chance I can help you help her adjust to your home. I am willing to send her home with feliway, which is a pheromone product that helps reduce stress in cats. I will be available for her new family to reach out to me with any questions on how to help her adjust. Sweet Pea should go to a home with no small children, and ideally no other pets in the home, HOWEVER with the right amount of patience and time she may be able to adjust to a new home with other cats. She tolerates the other cats we have at PAL but needs her space. She is about 2 years old, spayed, FeLV/FIV negative and up to date on vaccines. Can someone please give her the chance she deserves? I need to know that she finds a good home. I care about her and love her very much and I feel that I owe it to her to help her find the perfect home. I will never give up on her. Hi neighbors! We are looking for a part-time nanny to help with after-school care starting in September. We have two boys (2 and 4 years old) and they go to school in Friendship and our house is in Highland Park. We had a nanny for our second son since he was three months old and this fall is his first time in a school environment. We would be more than happy to provide references from our nanny and other caregivers. We deeply value the contribution that you would have to supporting our children. Our household is committed to raising sons who value an equitable world for all. We instill those values daily and are looking for a nanny who will share in that journey with us. We are looking for someone to pick them up at school 3 days a week and stay with them until dinner time. This could include going places in the neighborhood - playground, library, nature walks - or time in our house or backyard. We’d ask that on occasion you help prep dinner, or prep snack food and that before you leave you help with light housework including cleaning up their toys, folding laundry and things that directly relate to the boys.
