The plants definitely were stressed by the heat on Sunday which, given the multiple days of high temps, would be expected for any new plantings. However, I went out and checked on them all around 7:30 pm that night. Our volunteers (we have 1 or 2 per intersection and a volunteer coordinator) had watered them and they all had perked back up, and they looked better this week. The plants, containers, and soil were all donated by a local nursery. The staff there understood how and where they would be used and felt that the plants would do well there. Please keep in mind that everyone - city staff, the HPCC board, and the HPCC volunteers - are all doing the best that they can. These types of interventions have been proven to make streets safer for all users and that's a good thing. Yes, the implementation has not been perfect. However, this is the first initiative of its kind in the city and DOMI staff is working hard to listen to and address the concerns being raised: they have had 2 public meetings, have a website for feedback, held an on-site meeting, and have a third public meeting scheduled. It will take some time for DOMI to get the signage right and for people to adjust to the traffic patterns. For those of you who have told me how much you already love them - thank you for reaching out. If that's not you, please remember that we are all on the same side - we all want people to be safe in our neighborhood - and we can have concerns and disagree without being disagreeable. Thanks!Rosa As a community member who crosses at Callowhill and Euclid almost daily using my white cane or guide dog, I have noticesd some navigation adjustments that I have had to consider. I think the new traffic circles will require extra caution from drivers and pedestrians. Here are 2 things that I wanted to offer for drivers and pedestrians to think about while traveling through the Euclid Neighborways. I will explain from my specific point of view as a visually impaired individual but this would be apllicable to many pedestrians and drivers. 1. While breaking the sight line directly down the street might be effective to reduce speeding It also puts me at risk for not being seen. When previously crossing this intersection I could identify an oncoming car and be assured that they would most likely stop at the stop sign. This gave the driver an opportunity to see me and gave me the clear opportunity to cross, often making contact with the driver so that they were aware that I might need a little extra time to cross. There is security in knowing that the driver can see you. With the current circle, not only does the driver not have to stop but they will be looking either to the left or the right as they go around the circle and will only see me when they are right near me and may not be prepared to stop if I am in the middle of crossing, even if they are going slowly. Also if there are tall plants in the middle that will further obscure the drivers ability to see a pedestrian. 2. When crossing with the circle I have noticed that cars and trucks get much closer to the edge of the sidewalk when going around the circle and that it is very tight with little room to adjust. My guide dog is trained to find the curb when we approach a street crossing and I also use the curb with my white cane to prepare to cross. If I stand at the curb to cross with the circle there is a good chance I could be hit. I have seen large trucks really struggle to get around the narrow circle so if a driver is not being careful they could go right up and over the curb. I offer my experiences to you to share my unique way of moving In the world in hopes of keeping everyone safe. Thank you for your consideration. Mia Hi all! Very disturbing incident on the zoo hill (One Wild Place) - slightly modified

Late this afternoon (Wednesday about 4:45 ) I was driving down the zoo hill and had slowed at the zoo crosswalk when I heard this loud beeping in back of me. I looked in my rear view mirror to see a car very close in back beeping for no reason that I could understand. I had slowed to about 20 mph I think but increased my speed to the max allowed 25 mph to continue down the hill as he kept riding my tail much too close. Every time I slowed down a little below the 25 mph, the car driver beeped. At some point fairly early on he pulled out his cell phone and started taking pictures (I felt he was trying to intimidate me). At the bottom of the hill, I turned right with him still on my tail. I wanted to go across the bridge but I pulled into the left lane because it looked like he wanted to be in the right lane, and I wanted to let him pass so I could get his license plate. As he passed me on the right, he took another picture of me. He then headed across the bridge. I don’t know what he plans to do with the pictures, but it was creepy, and his driving on my tail (while taking pictures too) put us both in real danger. When I got home, I called 911 and reported it all. It was a dark gray or black SUV & I gave his license number to the police. I believe it was a PA license, but I was so busy just trying to remember the number, I’m not sure so I don’t want to give it here.
