Spreading the word about a great resource, Conservation Consultants, Inc. (CCI). I’m a new homeowner in Highland Park and a neighbor recommended this fantastic local non-profit that conducts energy assessments on homes and small businesses. My original goal was to have them identify how to address some drafty areas, and I was so surprised at how comprehensive the assessment was. All rooms were professionally measured and all major appliances were assessed…and thank goodness, because they identified a very dangerous clog with my hot water heater that was starting to back carbon monoxide into my home. It was not yet at emergency levels, but it was not picked up during my pre-sale home inspection. They did lead testing, used infrared cameras to check on insulation density and used a blower door test to suck the air out of the home to identify where the drafty areas were. The cost was very reasonable and I have a fantastic report, complete with photos that identified areas to address immediately and what can wait, and projections about how much I could save on my energy bills if I made the improvements. Some I could do myself, such as updating the door sweep and putting some caulk around the entry door. They also have a list of bonded professionals and they are great at helping you to put together an action plan. Wonderful resource for all of us with old homes. All of the contractors are great…Virginia McGrath was mine and she is fantastic…I’ve emailed and called her since my assessment to ask her opinion about a couple of items. Skinner pipe organ. The duo returned to Stambaugh to record several tracks for a forthcoming recording. "Highland Park" Free international film festival this weekend at Pitt

Dear friends and neighbors, I founded 5 years ago in South Carolina a film festival about cultural heritage and archeology called Arkhaios, which features beautiful, international, award-winning films. I just returned this week from the 5-year anniversary festival in South Carolina! Having settled in Pittsburgh earlier this year, next to my kids and grand-kids, I will be showing a selection of the films this weekend at the Frick Fine Arts Building on Pitt campus. The format is a combination of lectures by Pitt professors and graduate students, followed by the films which received the Arkhaios awards last week. Hello, Are you a woman who enjoys singing? Consider joining Women of Song! We are a group of women (most are non-professional singers!) who gather together weekly to rehearse a repertoire of songs while also enjoying the group camaraderie. Our usual season is Feb-May, but this year we are trying out a fall season! Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 at St. Andrew's Church in Highland Park (5801 Hampton St., 15206). The fall season runs from September 18 - December 4, culminating with participation in a holiday concert on Saturday, December 7. Though we have several returning members, we welcome new members every season! Update on missing Mail Delivery 8/17

Hello Neighbors,Happy Labor Day Weekend!It has been two weeks and my mail from Saturday, August 17, is still missing. (Informed delivery shows 7 pieces of mail..2 extremely important)From the abundance of feedback emails I received from this list-serve, no one on my mail route got mail that day and many other days.I have talked to the Customer Affairs office for the Postal Service and all that missing mail can not be located!!!!!!I was able to get through to the East Liberty post office twice (412 661-2350 or 7981 or 5780) and was told twice they would get back to me but they never called back. (Manager-McAfee Spelling?) My mailman says "He knows nothing". He was off that day.The Customer Affairs office always answers the phone and files a complaint. They said that the only way to improve service is to call them. The supervisor said they don't use social media so they do not know when issues are raised. It seems that I am the only one pressing for an answer to the missing August 17 mail. Some neighbors had said that they weren't expecting anything important that day so they didn't call.Their number is 412-359-7700 or 412 359-7845 and they at least listen and say they are sorry.I hope these phone numbers will facilitate your search for your missing mail.Lynn Raith

She has been cleaning my home for more than a year and does a wonderful job. She is trustworthy and reliable. She uses her own equipment and supplies.
