ELDI awarded state grant to expand affordable homeownership opportunities in Garfield The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) recently awarded a $200,000 grant to ELDI through their Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund. The funds for this grant come from the Commonwealth’s portion of the realty transfer tax paid when buying or selling real estate. The grant will assist in the rehabilitation of seven vacant or abandoned homes in Garfield. It is also helping leverage additional grants and loans for these projects. *"PHFA is pleased to provide some PHARE funding to ELDI,” said PHFA Executive Director and CEO Brian Hudson, Sr. “They are doing important work to expand homeownership opportunities for low-income families in neighborhoods like Garfield.”* These seven homes—which range in size from three to five bedrooms—will be available for sale to qualified buyers between 50 and 80 percent of area median income and their location in a neighborhood on the rise will help these buyers secure not just a safe, comfortable home but an asset likely to grow in value. Dear friends and neighbors, I founded 5 years ago in South Carolina a film festival about cultural heritage and archeology called Arkhaios, which features beautiful, international, award-winning films. I just returned this week from the 5-year anniversary festival in South Carolina! Having settled in Pittsburgh earlier this year, next to my kids and grand-kids, I will be showing a selection of the films this weekend at the Frick Fine Arts Building on Pitt campus. The format is a combination of lectures by Pitt professors and graduate students, followed by the films which received the Arkhaios awards last week. Hi neighbors, I know this might be a long shot, but I'm looking for some kind of locking shed or storage locker to protect one bicycle (adult size) from the elements this winter. Will pay any fair price. Indoor/basement storage is not an option for me, and my poor bike is currently locked to a railing, 26 stairs above street level, and getting rained on :( I would love to have it on street level and protected. We will meet indoors for our Tuesday morning session this week. Enjoy a yoga flow which includes gentle warmups, stretching, strengthening and balancing poses. What a lovely way to begin your day!
