Neighbors, Just a reminder: The 11th Ward Democratic Volunteer Corps (pgh11dvc.org) is hosting a candidates forum for State Senate District 38 from 7-8:30 pm on March 28. There are two Democrats running in the May primary for this race, Stephanie Walsh and Lindsey Williams. The forum will be held at the Union Project (801 N Negley Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206). Each candidate will take a few minutes to introduce themselves, and then take questions from the floor. Afterwards there will be time to talk informally with the candidates, and to mingle and get to know your 11th Ward neighbors better. ISO Pond Repair & Guitar Lessons

I have two very different requests. First, I'm looking for someone to do some pond maintenance/repair work. I received an estimate from North Hills Water Garden at Best Feeds a couple of years ago for this work based on recommendations I had received on the list serve. But I wasn't able to have the work done at that point and now I can't seem to reach anyone (left phone and email messages) there. Does anyone have other recommendations? Second, I'm looking for someone to teach beginning guitar to one of my teenagers (aged 14). Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! Rob Schwartz

Anyone compost?

My bunny and guinea pigs produce some really good compost material, consisting mostly of poop and hay, much of it peed on. I have a trash bag full now and will have more about every couple weeks. Let me know if you’re interested in a bag (or more). Meg

Reminder - FOCUS Pittsburgh Food, Hygene & supplies Drive Pick-up this Thursday, 29 MAR 18, at 9:00 AM

Reminder !!! We are running our 2nd pick-up from the neighborhood for Supplies for FOCUS !!! We have attached a letter in regards to what they need, but most importantly it is FOOD at this time. Last month we took three complete SUV Full Loaded, and it was so needed and so much appreciated. Our local residents, Mike and Brigette Nadler, have offered to be the Highland Park pick up people. If you are inclined to help, leave the supplies on your front porch and we will pick up and get your donations to FOCUS. So we are doing this again this Thursday, 29 MAR 18. We will be around starting at 9:00 AM, and need to get the donations there by noon. Please DO NOT drop off here, as we do not have a way of storing donations. Just email us your actual address to: mike(a)divehards.com, to let us know what to expect to pick up (as well as what not to take off your porches !!!). MAKE SURE that there is a Phone Number so that they can reach you during collection times, should there be any questions. FOCUS Pittsburgh, located in the Hill District, is part of a national movement through the Orthodox Church, that helps to fight poverty in communities across America. One of their areas in need is keeping their food pantry stocked with food and supplies. Currently, their shelves are empty and they need help. The above attachment highlights what they need. It could change on a monthly basis, at which point that need will be communicated. FOCUS Pittsburgh has been in the Hill since 2011. Each week, hundreds of backpacks are distributed to children in the Hill and Southside Public Schools. They offer an 8-week professional development class that teaches non-technical job skills to promote employment and success in the workplace. Bag lunches are distributed every Saturday through the Churches....140 lunches to be exact. In 2014, they opened a free medical and behavioral health clinic for people who are uninsured or who don't qualify for medical assistance. Most recently, they have purchased an RV, trained dozen of volunteers, and have formed a trauma response team -- responding to homicides in Allegheny County by providing on-site psychological and mental health care to residents affected by violence.
