I wanted to let fellow HPers know of a new event happening this weekend in Pittsburgh: It's called "Doors Open Pittsburgh" It's a FREE 2-day event, giving you access to many of the iconic buildings in Downtown Pittsburgh. As the executive director says in the one of the videos below, "it's like an open house on steroids." Have you ever been in the Mayor's office? Visited the HYP Club? Been inside some of the majestic churches downtown? Now's your chance. This access will be presented as either behind-the-scenes, or a new experience in a building you are familiar with, or an introduction to a building you have never been inside! Explore these buildings – theaters, private clubs, hotels, residences, government buildings, sacred places, artists spaces, and heritage sites – in a way that is not typically available to the general public. I wanted to invite you all to our Essential Oils 101 class that we will be hosting for the Highland Park community. *It will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at the East Liberty Library. Day Care Recommendations

Looking for recommendations for day care for an infant starting in the spring. Interested in something in Highland Park/Shadyside/East Liberty/Friendship/Bloomfield. Must be open until at least 6pm. I realize there are a number of reputable centers in Squirrel Hill and Oakland but those locations won't work for us, unfortunately. Thanks in advance for any recommendations! Sent from my iPhone

going away over Thanksgiving?

Hi All, We have friends who will be in town over Thanksgiving and are looking for a place to stay from Thursday-Sunday with their 2 or 3 dogs. This is a lovely couple who will be visiting their daughter who is in Pittsburgh for graduate school. They are very mature, clean and responsible. Since they are bringing the dogs they are having a little trouble finding a place to stay. They are very willing to negotiate a fair rate to pay anyone that may be willing to rent out their house and will be going out of town. Hello, I work with Nina Barbuto, the founder and director of Assemble: a Community Space for Arts + Technology <http://assemblepgh.org/> in the Penn Avenue Arts District, and we're trying to get the word out about upcoming Youth Maker Night events.
