Hello, I am looking for a day care in East Liberty or Highland Park for a little girl who will soon be 3. Specifically, I am looking for coop groups, or a private person who watches children nearby (with accompanying licenses). I am generally familiar with the day care centers in the area (though if there's a little known one shoot me the info if you'd like). Any suggestions? Thanks.

NIN Scholars online SAT Prep Program Accepting Applications for 2nd Tutoring Cycle Beginning April 1st!

NIN Scholars Online SAT Tutoring Program to Begin 2nd Cycle After Successful Pilot Following the notable success of the pilot, NIN Scholars, an online SAT prep program, is scheduled to begin the second 19 week tutoring cycle on April 1, 2015. NIN Scholars combines live online tutoring sessions via webinars and corresponding online content. The free pilot program launched in January 2015, with more than 120 Pittsburgh-area high school students registered and a total student enrollment of 152 across the country. NIN Scholars collaborated with Pittsburgh Prep, one of the foremost test prep companies in the state, to construct the innovative SAT prep program. Master Tutor Hoon Kim, a former Kaplan instructor and graduate of the Harvard School of Education, will lead the instructional sessions. Under his tutelage, Pittsburgh Prep has successfully helped more than 300 students raise their SAT scores by an average of 270 points. The curriculum employs the contemporary form of teaching known as the flip model. Students view prerecorded video lectures that introduce the fundamentals of each lesson and then participate in twice-weekly live webinars that apply the learned knowledge through problem solving and question and answer segments. The corresponding content and video lessons are delivered to students through the popular learning management system, Schoology. The ultimate goals of the program are to help students increase their chances of acceptance into their ideal college and to improve their odds of receiving financial aid, regardless of financial or socioeconomic factors. "I established the program after observing firsthand, Hoon's teaching style and the impressive effects his course had on my own children's education. I decided that all students, regardless of their family's financial standing, deserved access to his level of expertise in improving their SAT scores," said Tom Dickson, founder of Neighbors in Need. "I realized that a program like this would allow for more students to have greater educational advancements. By using the Internet, we are able to make Hoon Kim's expertise available to the masses." The second NIN Scholars tutoring cycle is available free of charge to students whose family has a demonstrated financial need. All other students will pay a one-time nominal fee to participate, which will be disbursed as funding for additional students who are eligible for financial sponsorship. Mayor William Peduto has launched Welcoming Pittsburgh, an effort to improve quality of life and economic prosperity for immigrants and native born residents alike. The initiative is part of Welcoming America, a national and grassroots-driven collaborative that promotes mutual respect and cooperation between foreign-born and U.S.-born Americans. The goal of this survey is to gage the attitudes of Pittsburgh residents towards immigrants and new residents in general. I've been asked by some of you to send them my responses so I've decided to send it to all of you. Thanks again for responding. See below: I use Lord Duncan Cleaners on Forward Avenue in Squirrel Hill! There's a Footers (I think it's Footers) in the Whole Foods Plaza and another one at the corner of Ellsworth and Summerlea in Shadyside -- in a little plaza with a convenience store on the corner. I haven't done price comparisons, but they do a good job. Shadyside valet is the best model dry cleaners picks up and delivers for free and uses all green products... no perchloro whatever. http://www.modelcleaners.com/ <http://www.modelcleaners.com/> I have been going to Pittsburgh Dry Cleaners on Wood Street in Wilkinsburg since I was a kid. My grandmother used this dry cleaner, and I can't see using another. They are friendly and very affordable; I got 5 winter coats cleaned there for less than $50. Good luck with your search! I recently found Magic Cleaners on Broad St, about midway between N. Highland Ave. and N. Negley. Judy has gone out of her way for special service for me when I was in a bind. Imperial Cleaners on Freeport Road, in the same store strip as Baskin-Robbins. I’ve been happy with their work for the past 15 years. I think Magic Cleaners even delivers – but I don’t know what is required for delivery. Have used My Cleaner on Freeport Road - they are reasonably priced. I heard through the HP Community Development Corp that there may be one going into the new development on Bryant St. Rocky's in Bloomfield

Pittsburgh Society of Artists New Member Screening

Consider becoming a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Artists as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The guild offers artists in all media the opportunity to join with fellow artists in the lifelong pursuit of artistic expression. Twice yearly new member screenings are held at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in Shadyside. PSA is the largest guild of the Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, which offers valuable resources such as exhibition space, teaching programs and the opportunity to sell work at the Center Shop. Since 1965, PSA has been dedicated to providing artist members with exhibition opportunities. The guild also encourages creative thinking through membership meetings, workshops, member critiques, field trips to museums, artist studios and much, much more. The spring new member screening will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Drop off is from 12:30-1:00pm at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts located at 6300 Fifth Ave in Simmons Hall. Applicants must submit 3 gallery-ready art pieces that are exclusively created by the applicant and made within the last two years.
